This article is dated because it first appeared in Eagle Rising. It was before last night's Milo Yiannopoulos event at UC Irvine.
Breitbart journalist and gay conservative pundit, Milo Yiannopoulos, must be laughing all the way to the bank as he outrages campus liberals on his "Most Dangerous Faggot " tour.
Yiannopoulos, who mocks political correctness, including the gay community itself, faced a hostile audience last week at DePaul in Chicago, where the little rascals took over the stage and made a mockery of the security that his own group had to pay for. Security guards masqueraded as potted plants along the wall as protesters stormed the stage, grabbed the mike, and took over the proceedings. Milo, who knows how to handle hostile audiences, incorporated it into his routine. To make matters even more absurd, DePaul's weenie of a president, a guy named Dennis Holtschneider (sounds like a bratwurst company), criticized both the disruption and Milo from far-off Normandie, where he was touring Omaha Beach. Then Holtschneider actually had the gall (Gaul?) to compare his brats to those forever-young men who lay beneath the crosses and Stars of David in the cemetery overlooking the beach where they died.
Then on Thursday, Milo appeared at UC Santa Barbara entering the hall in a chair hoisted on the shoulders of young male supporters. Considering the venue was at the campus known (at least to me) as UC Skate Board, I'm surprised he didn't enter on a skate board or riding a bike. It would have been more fitting if not as funny. Anyway, the event was guarded by half a dozen cops and went on as planned in spite of some threat, which may or may not have been a hoax.
This Thursday, June 2, Milo is appearing right here at UC Irvine, and it has been appropriately hyped. Posters were put up announcing his arrival a couple of weeks ago, and, as expected, the campus cupcakes are all in a tither. To make matters even sillier, the-get this- Vice Provost for Academic Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, Douglas Payne, sent out a campus wide email alert condemning the bigotry (of Milo) and offering safe zone training to anyone who feels unsafe and threatened by the event. That prompted a letter to Payne from Yours Truly asking why Jewish students never get such concern especially in the wake of the annual May anti-Israel "Hate Week", which features so much tension for Jewish students. What I got in return was a standard form, fill-in-the-blank letter reassuring me that there was no room for bigotry at UCI, blah blah blah, woof woof woof, quack quack quack. Of course that was quickly followed by the Students for Justice in Palestine at UCI, ably assisted by other student grievance groups, storming a showing of an Israel army film. About 50 Brown Shirts tried to crash through the door, blocked exits, and terrified the dozen or so Jewish female students trying to watch the film. Naturally, campus police were called. Naturally, no arrests were made.
So now the stage is set. Will Milo be disrupted by the usual suspects? I don't know, but I have it marked on my calendar. I will be there, and I will have my video camera if things get out of hand.
