They Really Are Coming to Take Us Away
"In a subpoena issued in March, the office of USVI attorney general Claude Walker demanded from Exxon Mobil copies of communications between the oil company and 90 different political and policy organizations “and any other organizations engaged in research or advocacy concerning Climate Change or policies.”
That was the name of the old spoof song by Napoleon XIV, which I occasionally post on this site to poke fun at someone i think may be a little nutty and paranoid. But if you are a Climate Change denier or skeptic who speaks out, they really may have you in their cross-hairs as evidenced by this disturbing report out of the US Virgin Islands. It seems the AG of the VI has launched a racketeering lawsuit against some 90 conservative groups including Stanford University's respected Hoover Institution. The Washington Free Beacon has the report.

You know the old saying: "What happens in the Virgin Islands eventually spreads to the rest of the US."
Good for the AG. Congressional committees have been hamstringing all kinds of organizations, research institutions, and individuals by broad subpoenas for copies of any records whatsoever of similar nature, although from the opposite end of the political tube. About time there was a bit of pressure going the other way -- especially targeting wealthy corporations known for their manipulation of politics.
ReplyDelete(Just for perspective, remember when the oil companies tried to suppress broadcast of "The Death of a Princess"?)
A corporation has neither a soul to save nor an ass to kick, it has to be subpoenaed to death.
