UC Merced Chancellor States No Terrorist Connection

UC Merced Chancellor Dorothy Leland has issued a statement to the effect that there is no terrorist connection to the stabbing incident this week in which Faisal Mohammad was killed by police.

This is in addition to the statement by Merced County Sheriff Vern Warnke to the same effect.

As reported earlier this afternoon, there is a conflicting report from Merced County News writer Matthew Gonzalez. He claims a witness told him that he or she observed a picture of what appeared to be an ISIS flag pulled out of Mohammad's pocket after he was shot. In addition, he quotes anonymous police sources as confirming that allegation as well as allegations that Mohammad was known to federal authorities and that local authorities had been briefed on terrorist threats to the Merced area. The source further alleged that university and Merced authorities were covering up these details. The Merced County News is some sort of alternative news source largely run by Mr Gonzalez.

I am not saying Mr Gonzalez's allegations are accurate or not. I do wonder, however, if the Merced Sun Star is willing to look into these allegations. If, in fact, a picture of an ISIS flag was discovered on Mohammad's person after he was shot, that nullifies statements by Leland and the Sheriff's Department. But that is a big if.

Another point: Where is Mohammad's family? According to reports, they have yet to come forward, nor have they been located.
