Once again there has been a stampede leading to mass casualties during the annual hajj (pilgrimage) in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

When this happens every few years, one must come to the conclusion that the authorities in Saudi Arabia are doing something wrong. Not that I'm an expert. It's beyond my comprehension.
* Update: The number of dead has risen to at least 717.
I guess that's what happens when you put two million people together in one place. Seems like a bad idea to me. Even the Oktoberfest, with its millions of visitors and drunkenness doesn't experience this.
Neither does Mardi Gras.
