Yes, Virginia, There is A Nancy Pelosi Drive in San Francisco
On Sunday, as friend and I were walking thorough Golden Gate Park in San Francisco (one of the sanctuaries from the armies of homeless walking the streets of the city). Imagine my surprise when we found ourselves on Nancy Pelosi Dr.!
I remember when Nancy Pelosi had been newly elected to replace the deceased widow of one of the Burton brothers. Bill Clinton had decided to push for NAFTA, previously negotiated by the Bush administration. ("Its the economy, stupid.") The local building trades council posted a leaflet all over SF, announcing "Nancy is sitting on the fence." They wanted to press her to vote no. Being an obedient Democrat, a liberal, not a socialist, she voted yes.
Sitting on the fence... a rather uncomfortable position methinks. Mugwumps were once described as politicians who sit with their heads on one side of the fence and their wumps on the other.
An airport must be next, no??
ReplyDeleteUsually you have to die before streets are named after you.
