If you are wondering why college tuition costs are soaring, one reason may be the top-heavy bureaucracy in universities especially the university of California, which is creating new a 6-figure vice chancellor position for something called Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

At UCLA, that position has just been filled by law professor Jerry Kang, who was interviewed by the Daily Bruin.

"His office will oversee two discrimination prevention officers, the Title IX officer and about 20 diversity specialists on campus."

Department of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

"UCLA created the vice chancellor position after a 2013 report, headed by former California Supreme Court Justice Carlos Moreno, found that UCLA lacked adequate policies and procedures for handling discrimination reported by faculty members."

I gather that while most students at UCLA, who are from all kinds of backgrounds, are just all trying to get along, it is the professors who are driving this agenda.

"Uhhhhh..........yeaaaaah."

And this:

"JK: (For example,) our faculty treated fairly by their students when they receive teaching evaluations. Right now, the way we deal with teaching evaluations might not lead to the fairest estimation of the teaching skills of faculty, by generation and or race.

It might be that women and racial minorities have greater variance in the scores they get. So, what would happen if you dropped the top 10 percent as well as the bottom 10 percent of the scores? You might be able to get better data that more accurately represents the model teaching experience and learning experience that students had in the class. There are ways we can collect data and present it (with) all these statistical terms that will allow us to judge each other more fairly and asses faculty rigorously on their merits."

That's right, Rocky. From now on you better watch how you evaluate your professors. Who knows? maybe there will be a new box to fill in with your race and gender having to be checked to make sure you are not giving bad evaluations to professors of color. I suggest a new position of bean counter be created to keep track of all the statistical breakdowns. We must ensure that students are treating their professors fairly, you know.
