SJP Comes Under Fire at Pitt
Hat tip? to the Pitt News.
Brian Albert of the Zionist Organization of America has written an op-ed ion the Pittsburgh Post Gazette on the scheduled speaking appearance of Edith Bell on behalf of the Students for Justice in Palestine. I don't know anything about Edith Bell, but it appears she thinks the FBI is spying on her and trying to take away her right of free speech. (I assume she will be able to make her pending appearance at Pitt.)

I have attempted to send in my comment about SJP to the Post Gazette, but the log-in procedures are somewhat akin to breaking into the CIA. In addition, I added the below comment to the Pitt campus paper, which was rejected due to the "use of profanity". I have sent a letter to the editor asking for an explanation.
"This is a perversion of remembering the Holocaust. By calling Israelis the new Nazis?
As an adjunct teacher at the University of California at Irvine, I have witnessed and followed the antics of SJP. This bunch was founded by UC Berkeley professor Hatem Bazian, who once called for an intifada in America. The SJP has used a variety of brown shirt tactics including trying to keep Jews off of student govt at UCLA and slipping "eviction notices" under Jewish dorm rooms.
As a Gentile teaching on a college campus, i am concerned about the growing anti-Semitism on college campuses. The fact that SJP uses the services of some misguided or misfit Jews (like JVP-a like-minded organization), only provides cover against the numerous accusations of anti-Semitism.
Mere criticism of Israel is not necessarily anti-Semitic, but the anti-Israel crusade in academia all too often features figures who make statements that are anti-Jewish. I have heard them right here at UC Irvine. Anyone who cares to research the SJP, its founder and the annual anti-Israel hate fests on campus will see this very clearly."

Thank you very much.
Having lived in Pittsburgh for three years, I usually expect common sense from the good burghers there, But, of course, the university is an island alone in a sea of common sense. SJP is a poison that affects over 100 campus across the country. They should be on a very short leash. It looks like they are not.

ReplyDeleteUhh, Gary you do know that the SJP invited a speaker (Edith Bell) who is Jewish and a Holocaust survivor.
Infact many speakers at Pro-Palestine events are Jewish (both relgious and secular).
The whole "Anti-Semitism" thing is just a way for shut down debate.
Uhh Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteI am fully aware that SJP and the various MSA's invite Jewish speakers who are anti-Israel. They are misguided or in the case of JVP, misfits. With all due respect to Ms Bell, who thinks the FBI is spying on her, she is allying herself with forces that want to destroy israel. I think I said all this in my post and my letter to the Univ of Pittsburgh paper as well as the Post gazette. Unfortunately, neither seem willing to post comments.
