The recent accreditation of Hatem Bazian's Zaytuna College at UC Berkeley is raising eyebrows in some quarters for a variety of reasons.

Just to add to the background, Bazian has a long history of incendiary rhetoric dating back to his student days in the Bay Area after he showed up on our shores from the West Bank. In addition to the intifada statement (which is on videotape), he has also been accused of suggesting that a student audience count the number of Jewish names on university buildings. In addition, Bazian has been reported to have quoted that cute little Hadith of Hate that talks of the day of judgment when the Jews will hide behind trees and rocks, and the trees of rocks will call out, "O Muslim! There is a Jew hiding behind me. Come and kill him". I once asked him about those statements in 2010 when he spoke at UC Irvine, and he gave nothing but evasive answers especially to the last two.
Here is what the Investigative Project on Terrorism says about Hamza Yusuf:

And co-founder Zaid Shakir, who is not mentioned in the Fox article.

As for the questions raised in the Fox article, I hope somebody will check into them. Stephen Schwartz is a true moderate Muslim, and his criticism should be taken seriously.
