University President Buys Into the White Privilege Theme

Hat tip Campus Reform

The president of California State University of Long Beach, Jane Conoley, has jumped on the White Privilege bandwagon in a piece she wrote recently. Campus Reform has the report.

"White privilege" is the new buzzword on campuses these days. If you can't make the case for white racism or discrimination, it's the new default.

I will concede one point in her article, however. I am assured by a black female friend of mine, a professional with an advanced degree, that the department store scrutiny is real because she experiences it when she walks into one. That aside, I see this new terminology as just another effort to divide us-especially on campus.

The obvious response to Conoley is that she should consider her own qualifications for the position she holds. Is she the president of CSULB simply because she is white? Or let's twist it a little more; is it because she is a woman? Maybe she should set the example and resign.

And your solution to this is?

  2. I would leave it up to the surveillance cameras rather than following black patrons up and down the aisles.

  3. To me, this is not much, if in fact any, different than Jesse Jackson's admission that he is unnerved when he encounters a herd of black youths on the street, or that he is relieved to find that footsteps coming up behind him belong to white people.

Seems that if it is not racist for Jackson to feel this way, it is therefore not racist of me to feel the same way. Conversely, simple logic would appear to dictate that if it is racist for me to react in this way, then it is equally racist of Jackson to do so, no??

But then, of course, I am not a race hustler/pimp, so I can be logical
