This is the first time I have ever heard of a subpoena being issued to church pastors to turn over their sermons. Apparently, it has happened in Houston.

The first question that pops into my mind is whether any mosques and their imams have been hit with these subpoenas. I think I know the answer to that.
Having set that aside, this is a clear assault on the separation of church and state. If these pastors were preaching death to gays, that would be another thing entirely. In that case, the cops should bug the church and record such sermons. I doubt that is the case. More likely, certain pastors were expressing their opposition to gay marriage or possibly even saying that homosexuality is a sin.
I personally don't think gay sex is any more a sin that heterosexual sex outside of marriage. I think it is an issue that the Christian churches should back out of. Yet, as long as no violence or denial of equal rights is promoted, it seems to me that the pastors have their free speech right to express their views on homosexuality based on what they perceive as the teachings of their religion. For the state to step in in this manner is troubling and should be referred to the courts.
I wonder how fast the courts will uphold this "request" from the mayor. We live in very troubling times.
