So much for my "inside " information about Jennifer Granholm being named the new UC Irvine chancellor. It has been announced that Howard Gillman will be the new chancellor. Gillman was the provost at UCI having come over from USC. At the time, some UCI students protested because there was some controversy at USC where some charged that Gillman was not sensitive to minority faculty or some such stuff. What the facts are I have no idea.
I have no opinion on this appointment one way or another. I do note that the head honcho at the OC Jewish Federation, Shalom Elcott, is using the occasion to make his followers think he is some kind of major player at UCI. Below is the link.

Blah blah blah, woof woof woof, quack quack quack.
First of all, the Jewish Federation has done zip, zero, nada as far as marginalizing anti-Semitism at UCI. On the contrary, the Federation and Hillel have opposed attempts by the community to get involved and bring attention to the problem. Instead, they have helped to fund and promote, the Olive Tree Initiative, a wolf in sheep's clothing that takes students to Israel and the West Bank to expose them to both sides of the conflict (supposedly). In reality, many critics, including myself, believe that OTI is heavily weighted to the Palestinian narrative.
In my opinion, this is a clever and slick move on Elcott's part, to elude to a relationship with the new Chancellor and pretending to have major impact on UCI student affairs. The fact is, as Gary writes: "many critics, including myself, believe that OTI is heavily weighted to the Palestinian narrative" which is not student affairs as much as it is a magical mystery tour of the West Bank, listening to Islamist propaganda. I too saw Elcott at one of the many Jew hatred fests, promoted by the MSU. He just stood around, briefly, not paying particular attention to the hatred spewed out by the Islamists and their guests. After talking to one of his associates, he walked off campus. This was the totality of the Elcott, UCI experience that day. It is funny how the Jewish community is so enchanted by this man.

ReplyDeleteThat has been a regular scene at those events. The guy stands there shaking hands with people and never challenges any of the speakers then has the nerve to put out press releases that the Fed was there to be "seen and heard" (Their words.)
Christian charges Jews with supporting Palestinians. Bark woof.
