Get Rid of Area Study Centers

Hat tip Daily Signal and Campus Watch

Mike Gonzalez has an interesting column in the Daily Signal in which he argues for getting rid of these university area study centers that have become little more than places of ethnocentric indoctrination (my words).

As for Title VI, I would have to look deeper into this because in the past few years, great effort has been devoted that finally resulted in having the Dept. of Education include Jews under Title VI.

I do feel, however, that the idea of area studies have been perverted. Rather than devote serious study to areas of the world and their cultures, departments have been taken over by lefist professors with an agenda of victimhood. During my recent visit to UC Santa Barbara in the wake of a professor assaulting a girl on campus who was holding a pro-life psoter, I wandered through the Ethnic Studies buildings (Girvatz Hall). On one professor's door after another there were posters proclaiming the victimhood of this or that ethnic group in that repressive police state known as Amerika..

In addition, we should recall that many if not most of the Middle East Studies departments have been established with funding from Saudi Arabia. It goes without saying that they are hotbeds of anti-Israel activism.

In these tight times where universities are looking to save money, this is an area where they can cut-and cut to the bone. Not only that, education-true education- would be enhanced.
