So You Want to Support Officer Wilson in Ferguson, Do You?

Hat tip Gateway Pundit

Here is what happened when two white people showed up holding placards in defense of Ferguson cop Darren Wilson.

If true, this is highly disturbing. Whatever happened to free speech in the country.

I know how they feel. It's the same thing when you show up at a pro-Hamas demonstration with Israeli flags.

*Update: Daily Caller is reporting that the woman in this report was actually arrested.

If true, this is highly disturbing. Whatever happened to free speech in the country? We will keep a watch on this.

  1. Strictly speaking, Gary's post does not address race, although Obama/Holder, et al, have emphasized this alleged aspect of the Ferguson situation essentially from the get-go. Quite a while back I went through this on another matter, and will do so again in terms that even Siarlys might understand. People need to keep in mind their "if-thens", their "either-ors", and their corollaries.

It has become axiomatic that a) poverty causes crime (probably true) and b) minorities disproportionately live in poverty (certainly true). If a) and b), then it readily follows that c), it is necessarily predictable, rather than somehow amazing or mysterious, that minorities will be disproportionately engaged in criminal behavior. I do not see how it could be otherwise.

And if c), then it again readily follows that d), if law enforcement and the courts are even only doing a barely adequate job, minorities will then necessarily be disproportionately investigated, arrested, charged, convicted, sentenced, even occasionally being legally executed, and, yes, probably even shot by police officers. Again, I do not see how it could be otherwise, and I for one am unable to see anything racist about the process.

The simple (and Utopian) answer, of course, is that reducing/eliminating poverty would significantly decrease the incidence of criminal activity. How to do that , and then getting it done, is the problem. After all, who benefits politically from keeping people in poverty?? Certainly not conservatives/Republicans.

And we certainly will not solve it by just giving more and more irresponsible people more and more welfare and other assistance programs. The aftermath of Hurricane Katrina is probably THE prime example of that, when a lot of people (essentially refugees, euphemistically evacuees)were spending a lot of money (debit cards) on such items as pro football tickets, perfume, Louis Vuitton luggage, "massages", booze, and suchlike.
