French police have arrested a 29-year-old man in Marseilles who is believed to the shooter in last week's attack at a Brussels Jewish museum. He is identified as Mehdi Nemmouche, a citizen of France. Furthermore, it is believed that he is one of thousands of people who have traveled from Europe to take part in the fighting in Syria. He is linked to the rebel terrorist group ISIL (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant).

The below report (via Atlas Shrugs) is from France24.com (in English). The text identifies the suspect only as a Frenchman, but the video does identify him by name.

Frontpage Magazine includes a photo of Nemmouche.

The Times of Israel (via Vlad Tepes) has further background on Nemmouche.

While this news hardly surprises me, I have resisted the impulse to jump to conclusions about what happened in Brussels last week and who was responsible. However, if Nemmouche is the man, comments are now appropriate.

1  This is why Western intelligence sources are so worried about those that are running off to Syria to join the Jihad. People like CAIR and their leaders like Hussam Ayloushe question why we are monitoring those who leave to join the fighting. Just this week, we learned that a Muslim American had blown himself up with a suicide bomb in Syria. Now we apparently have confirmation of an attack in Europe by one of those returnees. Many have commented rightly that the video of the attack indicated he was a professional. Certain apologists, like Seattle blogger Richard Silverstein, a fanatical anti-Israel activist, buttressed by some anonymous source, have expounded a theory that this was a professional hit against two suspected Mossad agents who were among the victims. Now we know why the killer was so professional. As for the two victims in question, how could the killer have known that it was they who were immediately behind that door he opened before firing? He opened the door and fired at those that were in his line of fire. The targets were Jews-any Jews.

2 This should be another lesson for those in our government who insist on supporting the Syrian rebels. There are no good sides in that war.

3 And finally, we have another example of Islamic Jew hatred in practice. Not all Muslims necessarily hate Jews, but if you are looking for the foundation, it is in the Koran, the Hadith and the sayings of the Prophet.

Hopefully now, a few more people will open their eyes to what is so obvious.

Those who are shooting at ISIS (or ISIL, depending on which English translation you prefer), are no better than ISIS?

I don't actually see any effective way for us to get involved that has a good probability of the good guys winning, because its hard to sort them out and they're not particularly well organized, but, its not true that there are no good sides. They're just small, under-armed, and not showing much competence.
