More on DePaul's BDS Controversy

Hat tip The DePaulia and DNA Info

* Update: Electric Intifada is reporting that the BDS measure at DePaul has passed.
That means the little rascals will be celebrating until the university announces it is not divesting from anything.

With a campus-wide vote going on today on the BDS-Israel issue, the DePaulia campus paper has two reports on the goings-on and two opposing op-eds from DePaul professors. I thought I would link them.

The first two describe the activities of the pro-BDS crowd and some students' reactions.

The first op-ed below is from anti-BDS Professor Steven Resnicoff.

The below op-ed by Adjunct Professor Shereen Yousef, who complains that Resnicoff covers up Israeli human rights violations while defaming Arabs and Muslims.

Question: What did Resnicoff say in his op-ed that was not true? He did not apply it to all Arabs nor to all Muslims. He basically stated facts about the countries that surround Israel and want to destroy her.

Yousef uses a pretty pathetic example (Jewish Voice for Peace) to point out Jews who support BDS. JVP supports the total destruction of Israel. They are a bunch of left-wing anarchists who utilize what they call, "direct action" to disrupt speeches by their opponents (example: Bibi Netanyahu in New Orleans). They refer to the words of the pro-Israeli crowd as "useless discourse". In other words, they do not support free speech as they amply demonstrated when they spoke on behalf of Students for Justice in Palestine at UC Irvine a couple of years back.

Yousef even resorts to the absurd tactic of "pink washing" that Israel supposedly engages in-pointing out that gays have total freedom in Israel as opposed to Arab countries (and Iran). How desperate is that?

Here is another report (DNAinfo)on the tension this is causing at DePaul

Hopefully, the various universities are waking up to the fact that they are being inundated with a well-organized and funded campaign to help destroy the Jewish state of Israel through de-legitimization in the eyes of the students in college. It is resulting in an unpleasant and even threatening atmosphere for Jewish students who support Israel and choose to speak out in defense of her. As the Students for Justice in Palestine increase their brown shirt tactics, I am confident they will wear out their welcome on campus.

  1. If we boycott everyone who commits human rights violations, all commerce in the world would grind to a halt.
