Senate Judicial Judicial Committee Snubs Daniel Faulkner's Widow

Pat Leahy

As the confirmation of a lawyer who took on the appeals case of cop-killer Mumia Abu Jamal winds its way through the Senate, Chairmen Pat Leahy (D-VT) will not allow the widow of slain Philadelphia police officer Daniel Faulkner to testify at the hearings. In addition, the DA of Philadelphia is also opposed to the nomination.

Make no mistake. If this nomination of Debo Adegbile to head DOJ's Civil Rights section sails through, it will be a slap in the face to every law enforcement officer in the land.

Of course he wouldn't. Her testimony is entirely irrelevant, no matter how passionately she feels about it.

Every lawyer ever nominated to any office has at some point in their career mortally offended someone on the other side of an adversarial proceeding, whether as a defense attorney or a prosecutor. No testimony about such ground axes should be permitted.
