Remember that Obama "Science Czar" John Holdren? He's the guy who has been quoted as suggesting it may be necessary to have forced abortions to curb population growth.

Well, he's back in the news again trying to explain that record cold weather they've been experiencing back East. What's causing it? Very likely Global Warming, according to Obama's house crackpot and former Harvard professor Mr Holdren.

Very likely he's right. Gary's idea of science is to step outside the front door, hold his finger to the wind, see which way its blowing today, and pontificate on what the weather will be like for the next century.

ReplyDeleteGlobal warming is causing the ice in Antarctica to become heavy and thick in the summer. Just wait until the winter. It should be thinner right.

ReplyDeleteFindalis, Antarctica could go in a number of different directions, and different parts of it could even go in a number of different directions. One factor is that warming evaporates more water off the oceans, a good deal of which may move to polar latitudes where it falls as snow. Part of Antarctica is a basin that collects that snow but does not allow melt (if any) to run downhill to the oceans. (There are mountains, you know? It's a continent, not a polar ocean). So at least some parts of the Antarctic ice may become heavier, at least for a time. It may get thinner later. It may help to slow the rise in ocean levels, for a long or short period of time.
If you were arguing that there are many variables to be considered, you would be right. But all you are doing is burying your head in the sand, crying "My mind's made up, don't confuse me with the facts."
I understand the complexity of the Antarctic region. The fact that the Larson Ice Sheet has collapsed many times in the past. And that collapse had nothing to do with man-made global warming. I also understand the dynamics of ice on the continent. But ice this thick, this late in the summer season is very rare. And not a sign of global warming, global cooling or any other theory.
ReplyDeleteI personally believe that the extreme weather we are experiencing is due more to sunspot activity than to global warming/cooling.
