CAIR's Cynical Exploitation of the Japanese Internment

One of CAIR's more insidious efforts is using Japanese-Americans and their World War II relocation experience to draw some sort of parallel with the experience of Muslims in the US post-9-11. It is a parallel that does not exist.

In recent years, CAIR has combined with Japanese-American groups to organize joint tours to the Manzanar relocation camp in California, one of several sites to which Japanese and Japanese-Americans were relocated after Pearl Harbor. Such a trip is being organized again.

First of all, there has never been any talk of relocating Muslim Americans anywhere since 9-11. America has done an admirable job of protecting the rights of American Muslims and not blaming innocent individuals for the 9-11 attack. Unfortunately, Japanese-Americans were not so protected after Pearl Harbor. Those living on the West Coast were relocated to camps inland. They lost their homes and businesses in the process.

America now recognizes that the relocation of Japanese-Americans was a mistake and an injustice. No cases of disloyalty to this country were ever established or proven. The most decorated military unit in World War II per capita  was the 442nd Infantry Regiment, which fought valiantly in Europe and was composed of Japanese-American volunteers. Japanese-Americans have received a formal apology from the government, and those affected received $20,000 as restitution (a pittance, for sure).

It is also interesting that CAIR, an organization that stills bears the label of "unindicted co-conspirator" in the 2007 Holy Land Foundation trial in Dallas, which involved charity funds being funneled to terrorist-designated groups in the Middle East, and which has been dropped from any liaison with the FBI, is able to tap into US Government funds from the US Park Service. It seems that in its relationship to CAIR, our government's right hand  doesn't know what its left hand is doing.

Hopefully, the Japanese-American groups will come to the realization that their own historical experience is not related to that of Muslim-Americans and that organizations like CAIR are exploiting them for their own purposes.
