The ASA Slap Down Continues

The liberal American Studies Association must be in a state of shock over the negative response to their resolution to call for an academic boycott of Israel. Previously, we have shown how universities are asserting their determination to continue to collaborate with Israeli universities and academics. Here's more:

Predictably, Ali Abunimah of Electronic Intifada, a site dedicated to the destruction of Israel, is going apoplectic over the backlash. He had been crowing over the meaningless resolution, which binds no university to do anything (see first link below). Now it's victim time (See second link below.)

I noted previously that this character visited Irvine on December 7, when he spoke at an event that was-you guessed it- dedicated to slamming Israel. On that occasion, he shared the stage, podium, or whatever it was with UC Irvine professor Sohail Daulatzai and UC Berkeley professor Hatem Bazian. I would have gone in to "pay my respects", but wasn't about to pay up 35 bucks to that bunch, so I stayed outside with a couple of ladies from Stand With Us with protest banners. Our free speech, Mr Abunimah.

Of course, in response to the letters that had been written to the CCC, Electronic Intifada and Abunimah howled in protest that SWU had tried to "sabotage" their event. Nothing of the sort. So for him to cry the victim as he does in the above link and moan that people's rights to speak out are being abridged, is typical. Again, nothing of the sort. The ASA and all the professors in the land can demand that their institutions do whatever they want them to do. The schools and others are also free to ignore them or tell them they are full of it.

It's a free country, Mr Abunimah. But there is good news. I am linking Electronic Intifada to my site. It's under the heading, "Fiction section".
