TSA Still Looking for Terrorists in All the Wrong Places

Fox News is reporting on complaints from the flying public at Phoenix Airport on TSA treatment of passengers.

Outrageous. This reminds me of what I posted about TSA at Houston after my return from Germany last month.

This is what you get after 5 years of Janet Napolitano running DHS.

  1. Yes... the government works so well we should turn over the healthcare system to them. Like the broken enrollment system for Obamacare, government employees don't know the industry so they give contracts to build and operate systems to outside contractors. They don't know the technology and let the contracts on some other basis... cost, presentations, or kickbacks. They can't implement it and they can't oversee it.

In the case of the TSA there are typical government employees and simply have no incentive to do a good job. They are just like the parking lot attendant who can direct you to the the spot they want. Whether they earned it or not they are suddenly designated as the BOSS! So, of course they abuse their positions, they don't use common sense, and don't care one way or another about getting passengers efficiently processed and on to their planes.

  2. TSA is a good example of what happens when ANY new program has to suddenly hire tens of thousands of people, rush them through training, and deploy them instantly.

Do you think experienced people with a good understanding of human psychology, chain of command, firm but fair application of standard rules, knowing when to be flexible, are hanging out on the street waiting to be hired? The really skilled people are already working, for a lot more money than TSA offers.

So, you get the applicants who are out of work, short on experience, and not particularly skilled. A lot of them are sincere, have a good work ethic, try to stick to the rule book, and in time will be quite competent. But it takes years, and there was no existing culture of skilled, experienced veterans for new hires to learn from.

So this is what you get.
