Hat tip Gates of Vienna
This is running on Gates of Vienna, so I thought I would put it up as well. It is hilarious. Last month in San Diego, social commentator Mark Dice got people to sign a petition to support "President Obama's choice for president in 2016", Karl Marx.
Really. Click below.

Stay in school, Kids.
On second thought, maybe you'd better drop out.
That would be interesting if President Obama had sponsored the petition. Since he didn't, its just a trite hackneyed attempt at satire by people suffering from a bad case of sour grapes.
ReplyDeleteI wish Barack Obama were a socialist, just like I wish Eugene Debs were alive and well and running for president. But, like Karl, Debs is dead. And Obama, alas, is merely a liberal. If you're ever in Terre Haute, visit Deb's home, which is now a museum dedicated to his memory.
Don't you have any real news to write about? Lance and I have been have a fascinating discussion be email, since your last "Hi Lance" post, and y'all might have really enjoyed being part of the discussion.
I have made a case Lance finds convincing that the decision of the Supreme Court of New Mexico, affirming an order that a photographer must accept assignment to photograph a same-sex commitment ceremony, should be overturned by the Supreme Court of the United States.
My starting point is that for a photographer to refuse to work on an event that offends their religious beliefs is more akin to a Jewish deli owner refusing to stock ham in the meat counter, than it is akin to a Jewish deli owner refusing to sell what he does have in stock to a customer who is Muslim, or black, or Christian, or whatever he objects to.
Photography, even commercial photography, is a form of expression. It is well established that schools cannot compel a student to recite the pledge of allegiance, Massachusetts public accommodations law cannot be applied to require the organizers of a St. Patrick's Day parade to include a Gay and Lesbian Irish Brigade float, and in general, government may not put words in someone's mouth.
Lance asked if I would accept that a photographer might refuse an assignment to record a bar-mitzvah on the same grounds. Yes, I said, either government has jurisdiction to compel, or it does not. If it does not, however repulsive the photographer's motives, it is none of the government's business. Anyway, who WANTS a photographer with that sort of attitude preserving one of the most beautiful days of your life for your family albums?
But maybe you'd rather just say that the Supreme Court of New Mexico is dominated by obvious Marxists and forbear to analyze their decision in light of applicable jurisprudence.
Siarlys,
ReplyDeleteI don't recall my post having anything to do with the Supreme Court of New mexico, same sex marriages, Lance or anything else you mention. And i don't plan to visit Terre Haute anytime soon or during the remainder of my life.
Gary, when your post begins with a campaign for Karl Marx for President, its such vacuuous nonsense I just had to point out there were more substantive matters to discuss, and offer an example. I hoped other readers would offer a few more, you might come up with one yourself, and the quality of your blog would improve enormously.
ReplyDeleteI've also wondered why you didn't touch this subject, which every other conservative in the country seems to be up in arms about.
What could anyone say about some dumb fool running a petition supporting Karl Marx for president? Poor thing, he must have very serious delusions of grandeur? Dead people can't serve as president? Boring. You can do better.
I think most of those who signed the petition were Tea Party types who believe that Obama is a Marxist, not Marxists who love Obama, nor Obama devotees who would do anything they were told the Great Leader desires. The rest probably had little idea what Barack Obama believes, and less idea who Karl Marx is. Perhaps they thought he was the owner of the Carl Marks Cafe in Moscow, Idaho, but that is actually owned by three men, one named Carl, the other two named Mark. I think Dice is an idiot, not to be taken seriously by anyone.
ReplyDeleteWhy does Siarlys not see the same humor in this petition drive as I do?? Probably because he is a slave to his ideology. He almost acts like he believes this is serious. Marx may be dead, but a lot of those fools/idiots Dice talked to are obviously not aware of that.
ReplyDeleteI have checked out his apparently favorite "news" site ("The Onion"), and in my view it is every bit as lame ("vacuuous nonsense"??) as he apparently believes this tongue-in-cheek Marx for President bit to be.
elwood, you have as much as confessed that you, like all of us, find humor in those things you find funny, in accord with how you view the world, much like the rest of us.
ReplyDeleteNot only is Karl Marx dead, I would guess those who signed the petition, aside from the substantial number enamored with the mantra "Obama is a socialist," not only don't know he's dead but couldn't distinguish him from Groucho.
