Riot in Huntington Beach

"On Friday we'll be jacked up on the football game
And I'll be ready to fight
Were gonna smash 'em now....."


Lost in all the Muslim rioting going on in Europe in recent weeks was the fact that right here in Huntington Beach, California, we had a riot by surfer dudes on July 28. Seven were arrested, and more are expected.  I wouldn't want my loyal readers to think I was covering it up by neglecting to report it like our mainstream news media does with other types of riots. What happened in July was the annual Surf festival in Huntington Beach. Along the bars of Main Street things got out of hand (as they tend to do on a much smaller scale on a typical Saturday night.) Arrests even included a fireman from the nearby city of Fullerton, which has had its share of problems with its own cops and local politicians.

Courtesy of Ted, here is a news report that featured some comments by local residents at the city council meeting. They are clearly fed up and have had enough. Several are asking that the festival be canceled.

Here is a report by something called the Surf Channel announcing the city council meeting and describing the riot as a "limited civil disturbance".

And who is the mayor of Huntington Beach? That would be Connie Boardman, who is also a Cerritos College biology professor (figures). My co-respondent, Ted, who was present at the city council meeting was, let's just say, underwhelmed by her performance.
