Quote of the day: Congress Calls on US to "Restore Order" in Egypt

Sens. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., and Jack Reed, D- R.I., said the immediate role of the United States should be trying to restore calm in Egypt, where street demonstrations and clashes over the past several weeks and the military overthrowing Morsi have resulted in at least 36 deaths.

Here's a howler for the ages.

So my question to Senators Corker and Reed is just how the US-this administration- is supposed to restore calm in Egypt?

Maybe we should have Ambassador Anne Patterson order all the protesters to go home.

Should we send in our military? Establish a "no-fly zone", perhaps?

Maybe President Obama should go over to Egypt and give a grandiose speech at Al Azhar University or  in front of the Pyramids.

Maybe we should give weapons to the Muslim Brotherhood-on top of the tanks and planes we have already provided.

Maybe we should send in Dennis Rodman.

How about Carlos Marmol? Restoring calm and order was his specialty with the Chicago Cubs.

Or even bring back Hillary Clinton?

Here's my idea: How about we stay calm and let the Egyptian military sort it out?

Relax, John. Stay where you are.

  1. Gary, that's exactly what I keep asking you, when you rant that the administration has done nothing about this or that that you don't approve of. I might not approve either, but do you, for instance, think it would help if the U.S. Ambassador issued stern instructions to mobs to cease and desist from bothering Copts?

  2. Forget the feckless ambassador. Obama should have spoken out publicly about it. He should have told them way before that we would not give aid to a country that treats its Christian minority in such a way. BTW; it precedes Morsi and the MB, but it got worse under them.

What would Jimmy Carter have said?

    (Don't answer that.)

  3. So if in a certain part of the United States some portion of the citizenry can lynch a black person and not go to prison, therefore the whole world should boycott any connection with the United States?

You keep talking about how "a country" treats its minorities (I assume it isn't ONLY Christian minorities you are worried about?).

What you've detailed are mob actions, sometimes aided and abetted by what passes for local police.

President Obama might have said, the government needs to get a grip on this lawless activity, but talking about how "Egypt" treats "its" minorities, not so much. Shall we cut off all aid to Greece because Golden Dawn beat up a few people?
