Hate Week at UC Irvine Kicks Off (Sort of)

Today is Day One of the Anti-Israel week of events sponsored by the UC Irvine Muslim Student Union. I guess the MSU has also been impacted by the sequester because there was no speaker scheduled at noon. All they had was the (supposedly) refurbished Apartheid Wall.

There was no audience, no crowd, just disinterested students passing by on their way to and from lunch. At 1 pm a couple of MSU guys read from a sheet of paper about "oppression" and "occupation" in Israel as other students held a banner that read....

"Death to Apartheid"

"Ah wunnerful, ah wunnerful, ah."

That was it. As for that refurbished apartheid wall, I am reminded of the refurbishing that Chicago Cubs owner Tom Ricketts wants to do at Wrigley Field. He's going to install a huge jumbotron over the left field bleachers. Problem is that doesn't help the team on the field (in last place).

Maybe he could take that apartheid wall and place it on top of the right field bleachers.

But I digress (Just trying to make this interesting.)

  1. I think the UCI MSU is losing its Mojo. It is probably financial problems but it could be lack of leadership.
Certainly, it was nothing anyone else did to curtail their vitriol.

They are still doing their BDS thing (without appreciating that their brethren will be harmed as much as the Israelis) and the campaign against Tammi Benjamin is still going on but, if today is any indication, they are circling the drain here.

  2. You know what is funny? The "wall" they complain about is mostly double chain-link fences and not a real wall. Israel's Security Fence

Just like the US and other nations have on their borders.

  3. Miko Peled is going to speak on Tuesday. He proposes a one state solution. I wish someone point out to him that it is in both peoples mutual interest to have a homeland of their own.

Seeing the break up of Yugoslavia and the troubles in Lebanon and how states left the Soviet Union, how and why does he think a one state solution would work in the Israeli/Palestine conflict. If he goes into nonsense about historically Jews and Arabs co-existed in harmony before Israel, he would not be giving an accurate account of history.

He comes off like a dreamer. He doesn't seem to recognize that being a minority in the Middle East isn't normally a good thing and most Jews are not going to want to be a minority a single Palestinian state. There are right wing and left wing nuts who support the single state. He is one of the left wing nuts. Odd that a religious based group like the MSU would want him to speak but I guess they like the single state idea so much they will overlook where he comes from. Peled advocates for one state where no religion is favored. Do MSU members really want that?

Yup. That's the correct response. Don't let the little narcissists puff themselves up like they're important.
