The Godmother Part 3

Part 3

Walter Reed Hospital, Bethesda, Maryland

A tall, smartly-dressed man walks into the entrance of the hospital and presents his ID to the guard. The guard makes a call and then issues a pass to the lawyer. Another guard approaches and motions the lawyer to follow him. A long walk ensues through several hallways until they reach another guard post. The guard looks at the lawyer's pass and opens the door. The lawyer walks through and stops at the second door on the left. He enters and is greeted by a man holding a walking cane in the small patient room.

"I hear you had a rough go of it over in Libya, Frankie."

" Yeah. The docs say I'll be up and around in a few months. How are you, Tom?"

"Doing well, Frankie. The Godmother sends her regards."

"Yeah. I heard she was retired-at least for a while."

"Just laying low for awhile until the heat dies down."

The two men walk through the back door into the garden area of the hospital. Another guard walks a discreet distance behind.

"I guess that's why you're here, eh Tom?"

"Yeah, Frankie", the lawyer answers. "That's why I'm here."

"What should I do, Tom?"

Tom lights a cigar, takes a deep drag, and answers.

"Frankie. You're a history buff. You remember the story about that gal who claimed she had a sexual relationship with Bill Clinton in the Oval Office?"

"Yeah", Frankie laughed. "Who could forget about that?"

Tom continued, "You remember all the testimony, the hearings, the impeachment stuff. In the end, none of it mattered. In the end, nothing happened to Clinton, and life went on as before. The only people who got hurt were the ones who tried to fight the system. Those that played ball went on as if nothing had happened. The only ones who lost their jobs were the ones that tried to buck the system."

"Yeah. You're right, Tom."

The two shook hands.

"Don't worry about a thing, Frankie."

"Thanks, Tom."

The lawyer turned and left.
