Terry Jones' Disgusting Spectacle
Florida Pastor Terry Jones has surfaced again. After holding a rally in which effigies of Presidents Obama and Bill Clinton were hung and burned last month, he has made some pretty unsettling comments about how people should resist gun laws. The Blaze has the report with the video and photos.

Notwithstanding the effigy of Clinton and presence of black participants, the symbolism of a black man being lynched in the South is obvious and leaps out. Whatever one thinks of Obama, the idea of killing the President -even symbolically-is revolting. I still believe that the assassination of President Kennedy changed this country for the worse. A repeat now would be catastrophic for us all.
This man Jones is dangerous. He is an extremist. Furthermore, he does serious damage to the counter-jihad movement which chooses to act responsibly. He damages the gun-rights folks as well. First, this knucklehead burns Korans, a senseless act that angers every Muslim-not just the extremists. Now he hangs and burns the President in effigy as a means to defend gun rights. As a result, Jones makes himself a poster child to tar all conservatives, Christians, counter-Jihadists and gun owners as right-wing wackos and hate-mongers. Thanks a lot, Terry.
I still defend Jones' right to speak his piece though I think he has earned a friendly visit from the Secret Service. I also defend him from that outrageous Egyptian court decision that has put a death sentence on him.
But that is as far as it goes. The man is toxic.
well said.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. He doesn't do his side any favors.
ReplyDeleteI thought the game with GWB was to throw shoes at a moving effigy, not to burn one.
ReplyDeleteI've never had to defend Gary from Findalis before, but there's a first time for everything. He didn't say burning a Koran is a crime, or should be. He said its a stupid thing to do, and Jones's spectacle is disgusting.
Jones may be dangerous, but he's a little more than a joke. I hope he does something really stupid, like resisting arrest, while armed, so he gets what he deserves.
What will Jones be arrested for Siarlys? It is still legal to burn a Koran in this land. It is still legal to burn someone in effigy. It is still legal to speak your mind or to preach the gospel.
ReplyDeleteI don't see Jones advocating the murder of a fellow person, assaulting another person, or burning down a building. But I have heard those thoughts in Mosques.
Jones is a buffoon, but the ones who come after him will be dangerous.
Give him time, Findalis. A man as perpetually mad as Jones will sooner or later attempt a crime of violence.
ReplyDeleteThat was very ecumenical of you, defending the right of your fellow citizens to indulge in idolatrous deification of an executed criminal.
