Notre Dame Wins One for the Grifter
"I've got to go, Rock. It's all right. I'm not afraid. Some time, Rock, when the team is up against it, when things are wrong and the breaks are beating the boys, ask them to go in there with all they've got and win just one for the Gipper. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock. But I'll know about it, and I'll be happy"
I have been watching the Manti Te'o affair with more than passing interest since rumors are wild that the Steelers will have a chance to take him with their 17th pick in the draft. (They need an inside linebacker.) Not only has Manti's stock dropped since his poor performance in the BCS championship game against Alabama, but this latest lollapalooza could drop him even lower-much lower if it turns out he participated in the hoax.

"The story of the woman’s supposed death of leukemia became his team’s most dramatic storyline as the Fighting Irish went undefeated through the regular season."
"In a Dec. 20 Sports Illustrated story that was published just days before Te'o notified Notre Dame officials, Kekua was characterized as inspiration for a "season for the ages" by Te'o and his teammates."
I will wait to see how this ends up (What else can I do?) before passing judgement on Manti, who seems to be a fine young man. I hope he was not involved.
But if he was..........
"The Cleveland Browns, with their 7th round pick take Manti Te'o, inside linebacker, Notre Dame."
Say it isn't so Manti Te'o!
ReplyDeleteSomething smells here. No pictures of them together. He never visited her, went to her funeral, visited her grave. No Obituary in any paper. No record of her at any university.
Now either he is the most naive man in the world OR he was complicit in this. After all he was in the running for the Heisman Trophy.
Aha! A possible motive for a publicity stunt and sympathy, perhaps?
