"Whadda ya mean youse don't wanna join da union?"
Through one of my colleagues at UC Irvine, I learned that teachers at nearby Saddleback Community College, even part-timers, are required to join the National Education Association (NEA) teachers union. Apparently, there is some opt-out process, which requires much paperwork and a fee to do the necessary forms. My friend also gave me a copy of the NEA's latest newsletter.
