Northeastern University-The "Brown" University

Hat tip Campus Watch

The below article by Richard Landes in Campus Watch is just the latest in a series of disturbing articles about Northeastern University in Boston. The term I use, "brown" university, is not a reference to that nearby university in Rhode Island. It originated back in the late 1920s and early 30s when Erlangen University in Germany earned the moniker due to the fact it was the first German university where Nazi students held the majority in the student government, this prior to Hitler's taking power.

Now comes Northeastern University with its activist professors, pro-Palestinian students, demonetization of Israel, and before you know it, a menorah is defaced. In response, a timid university administrator issues a generic condemnation without going into a lot of detail.

This is reminiscent of May of 2010 when Amir Abdel Malik Ali, during the annual anti-Israel week sponsored by the Muslim Student Union at UC Irvine, told Jews in the audience that they were "the new Nazis". In response, the chancellor issued a statement that a particular hateful speaker did not speak for the university-without mentioning the comment, the speaker, the attacked group, the event, or who sponsored the event.

Congratulations, Northeastern. You are now the 'brown" university.

  1. I guess that this university is the first "brown" university of the many more to come.
