Washington Post Article on Jill Kelley

Hat tip to Squid for sending me this.

"A military officer who is a former member of Petraeus’s staff said Kelley was a “self-appointed” go-between for Central Command officers with Lebanese and other Middle Eastern officials."

As much as I hate to say it, there may be yet another scandalous aspect to what already is a sordid mess related to David Petraeus. Remember back in the 1980s when there was a sex and spy scandal involving our Marine Guards at the US Embassy in Moscow? This time, we may have one involving the top brass at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, which happens to be the central command for our troops fighting in Afghanistan. The below article is from the Washington Post.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/tampa-woman-was-hostess-to-the-military-but-had-deep-financial-troubles/2012/11/13/45cea33c-2d19-11e2-9ac2-1c61452669c3_print.html

It may turn out that there is no wrong-doing here, and I hope that is the case. In the Moscow case, a Marine Guard was actually convicted of willfully passing on classified information to the Soviets. I would be shocked if that were the case here. However, to say that this must be thoroughly investigated is an understatement given the links to Petraeus and General John Allen-to say nothing of the indirect connection to Benghazi.

  1. Even our military high echelons have been infiltrated. It was bad enough when it was the State Dept but the military?!

This was why the military report on the Ft Hood massacre was "workplace violence"

As long as we keep bending over and grabbing our ankles, the same thing is going to happen.

Before you know it blasphemy (of Islam) will be a capital offense.

  2. What? I thought the whole scandal was merely an opportunity to squeeze Petraeus for testimony about Benghazi that might be damaging to our newly re-elected president whom you didn't vote for.

You mean there's a real scandal here?

And Miggie, if he makes any coherent sense at all, alleges that Petraeus, Kelley, et al. are covering up the Fort Hood massacre and working to make blasphemy a capital offense?

Is this going to end up as an Afghanistan version of "The Manchurian Candidate?"

  3. Is there any possibility, however slight, that Obama may be "The Manchurian President"?? And of course, there are rumors out there of a third and fourth Obama term, however crazy they may be.

For Siarlys--which ties into a previous post I did re Clinton wanting a third term and trying to figure out some way to do it That post has gone to the dead-letter file long ago, but I will revive it briefly here, just to point out that I am not as dumb as you appear to think I am (I am actually 14% and change more intelligent than you, believe it or don’t).

You indicated that I had swallowed satire by “The Onion”; nothing could be further from the truth. I have subsequently figured out, at least to some extent, that The Onion, which appears to me to possibly be one of your favorite reads, is apparently something of an amalgam of MAD Magazine (which I read as a youth but quit when I grew up), The National Enquirer, The Village Voice, and Ramparts (out of New Orleans). Rags, in other words.

In case you missed it, I am reproducing immediately below my previous post refuting your allegation that I got the info from The Onion. If at all possible, please try to not be quite so supercilious in the future, OK??

Siarlys--I have no idea what The Onion is, have never read it if it is readable, or gone to its blog if it is a blog. Or anything. I have no idea what you are talking about. And this was prior to your interregnum.

What I did have reference to is a book, The Clinton Tapes (I believe) written by an apparently continuous associate of Clinton's (Taylor Branch, I believe) from their days way back on the Texas McGovern campaign.

Toward the end of Clinton's second term, Branch followed him around taping a lot of his musings and activities. According to Branch, Clinton hated to leave the White House so bad that he unsuccessfully tried to dream up ways to come back as president. One idea he apparently had, at least as I recall it, was to get elected as VP and cut some kind of deal to succeed to the presidency upon the resignation of whoever was elected president after him. He saw this as a possible way around the 22nd Amendment.

I have no indication that Branch was lying, I believe he has it on tape, and anyone knows that Clinton would have sold Hillary into the white slave trade for an additional 24 hours as president. I don't know if it would have taken a week or a month or whatever for him to have similarly sold Chelsea.

  4. elwood, for a man I thought had shown considerable signs of intelligence, you grow more incoherent by the day. OK, you assure me on your word of honor that you are more intelligent than I am. What does "14%" have to do with it? Are you employing a clairvoyant who can measure relative intelligence that precisely, sight unseen? And your intelligence changes, how?

The Onion is indeed satire, and I mentioned it only because you were promulgating a story worthy of its front page. Its not uncommon for some faux-conservative demagogue to spread excerpts from its articles all over cyber space as "news," only to have the air go out of the balloon when someone identifies the source.

In case you missed it, I mentioned (in response to the comment you repeated at length, which I read in full last time you posted it) that Ronald Reagan also seriously talked about how he should get a third term. I see no signs President Obama aspires to one. The talk must be the usual paranoia among your crowd.

The Manchurian President was George W. Bush, a cute, clueless, business failure, manipulated by the wily and ruthless Karl Rove to mortgage our country to the Bank of China, covered by rhetoric about giving "the surplus back to the people" == who were already on the line for $5 trillion in debt. By the time he finished, during PROSPEROUS times, that debt had doubled. And y'all have the nerve to complain about deficit spending on the edge of a great depression???

Well, after all that, you've said nothing that lends any credibility to Miggie's muddled mental meanderings, or to Gary's sour grapes speculation. So what was your point?
