Stop With the Media Spin

Isn't it amazing that in the face of all this madness and the slaughter of 4 Americans in Libya, the left wing media (especially MSNBC) can only focus on two aspects of this mess. They maintain that:

1 Mitt Romney "politicized" the issue with his "irresponsible" statement. He spoke without realizing that the infamous Cairo embassy tweet (condemning the anti-Muslim film) was sent out before the protest in Cairo actually began and before the events in Libya.\

2 The provocation for the protests is the film, "The Innocence of Muslims", a dopey pseudo-comedy that mocked Mohammed and Islam., and which was produced by still-murky individuals in the US.

As to point one, it is true that the embassy's statement condemning the film was made before the protest actually began, but in the knowledge that one was coming. The administration and the State Department themselves stepped back from that statement after the fact saying that it did not represent the views of the administration. However, it appears that the original statement from the embassy was the only one standing for some 9-10 hours.

As to the film, it is my understanding that this film was actually produced and first shown in a theater in 2011. If so, how can anyone argue with a straight face that this was the cause of the protests/riots on September 11, 2012?

Yet, some of the mad hatters at MSNBC are echoing the demands of Egyptian president Muhammad Morsi that the producers of this film be prosecuted!!

Sorry folks. We can agree or disagree on the wisdom or propriety of making this film (Yes, I have viewed it.), but we still have a First Amendment in this country notwithstanding the best efforts of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation to pass a world-wide Defamation of Religions law. (That line through the s is no misprint.) As for Morsi, the Egyptian government was willfully negligent in allowing the protests to get as far as they did. You don't stand by while a mob penetrates the walls of an embassy (I have seen that embassy-it is a fortress.) At this point, somebody should tell Morsi to go to Hell.

Finally, whoever investigates this fiasco can start by asking why Marine guards in Cairo had no ammunition while there were no Marine guards protecting the consulate in Benghazi. In fact, it has been reported that Ambassador Stevens was missing for several hours before his body was recovered. In fact, if you were listening to Hannity today on the radio or browsing conservative blogs, there are very disturbing reports out there concerning Stevens' death-reports that I am not posting yet until there is more confirmation.

But I digress. The liberal media needs to stop circling the wagons for Obama on this. They need to ask why Obama is still flying around the country giving campaign speeches while these outrages continue across the Arab world. They need to ask questions about the preparedness of our diplomatic missions in that part of the world. How much advance notice did the State Department have that these protests/attacks were coming in Cairo and Benghazi? They need to ask how we are going to punish these countries instead of listening to Hillary Clinton preaching about the great friendship between the American and Libyan peoples and apologizing for that film. Outside of Code Pink, the American people are in no mood to hear it right now.
