Visas and Food Stamps

Do you remember that quaint old practice followed by the State Department that when evaluating visa applications, we were not supposed to grant visas to foreigners if it was suspected the person(s) were likely to become "public charges" once in the US (dependent on government assistance)?

"Uhhhhhhh.........yeaaaaah."


So do I, but that has apparently gone the way of the Edsel. Now our government even advertises the benefits of food stamps in Mexico. Finally, somebody in Congress figured out that these two ideas are in direct contradiction to each other, and they are demanding answers from the administration-specifically Hillary Clinton and Janet Napolitano.
