Pam Geller on the Jewish Federations

In the wake of the cancellation of her June 24 speaking appearance in Los Angeles by the Jewish Federation, Pam Geller has written an article which is appearing today in PJ Media. In this article, she reacts to the cancellation as well as the decision by the Federation not to use the term, 'Zionism".

Geller is spot on when it comes to this shabby organization that is principally concerned with raising funds and funneling them out to Jewish causes and projects. Though largely autonomous around the country, most of the chapters demonstrate a questionable attitude toward not only Israel, but standing up to anti-Semitism as well.

As I have written numerous times on this site, the performance of the Orange County Jewish Federation vis-a- vis the situation at UC Irvine is nothing short of disgraceful. Not only have they pooh-poohed the charges of anti-Semitic hate speech on the campus and defended the university's inaction, they have also shamefully funded the Olive Tree Initiative, which Geller refers to.

As my regular readers know, I have reported often on the Olive Tree Initiative, which was spawned a few years ago at UC Irvine. Billed as an attempt to expose students of all religions and backgrounds to both sides of the Israel/Palestinian conflict, it as obvious that the Palestinian side gets the most play. At least three Jewish students who have participated in the OTI program have gone on to join Students for Justice in Palestine (at the UCI and UCLA campuses). And yet, the Jewish Federation, through its Rose Foundation, continues to fund this program in spite of protests from members of the local Jewish community.

Speaking as a humble Gentile, at a time when Israel has few friends within the US administration and is facing threats from Iran, while anti-Semitism is on the march again, it is important to know which organizations really stand up for Israel and the Jewish community-and which organizations do not.
