The below report comes from IOL News of South Africa and tells us how Jordan handles rape cases. It's called thinking outside the box.

Keep in mind that Jordan is considered one of the moderate countries, an ally of the US, King Hussein, Queen Noor, and all that good stuff.
I recall just a few months back sitting at a town hall at the Islamic Center of Orange County and listening as a panel of experts like Imam Muzammil Siddiqi explained to us how sharia law was in perfect conformity with the US Constitution. And do you know there were three women on that panel? Guess who they were.
Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA)
Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (D-CA)
Congresswoman Judy Chu (D-CA)
A couple of members of the audience tried to ask the "experts" about wife beating, at which point the Q and A was cut short after the panelists got their feathers ruffled. Considering the above, we didn't even begin to scratch the surface.
Of course, I could write the three "esteemed" congresswomen a letter and attach this article, but let's face it; it would be a waste of time.
"Uhhhhh........yeaaaah."
They would probably think I was some right-wing nut writing in favor of the Defense of Marriage Act.
Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteI will trust your biblical quotation. I feel safe in saying that this is not something that has been practiced by Jews for a few thousand years-maybe millions.
As for this story out of Jordan, it is hardly the first time I have read news reports of this type.
Do you have any good suggestions as to how we can bring this to the attention of American feminists?
judaism is only a few thousand years old and not millions
ReplyDeleteand wasnt there a story on this blog just a few days ago about jewish rabbis putting thier mouths on the genitals of newborn boys and sucking the blood out after a circumcision?
No, there was not a story on this blog about that. It was something one of my other Anonymous jew-hating readers sent in. It seems jew-haters have some sort of obsession about how rabbis circumcize babies. I do not share that obsession.
ReplyDeletemr fouse we are not talking about rabbis performing circumcisions on babies but rather rabbis performing a pseudo sexual act on a baby and infecting the baby with an std
ReplyDeleteand what jews do in america concerns me more of what muslims do in jordan or the middle east
what say you?
The quote is accurate. ( you should get a copy of the Bible, Gary). You are also correct in that many parts of the Bible were soon reinterpreted, ignored or made inoperative.
ReplyDeleteFor example, Thou shall not murder" also came to include the notion that you should help the orphan and widow. "Eye for eye" became monetary damages for injuries.
Polygamy, common thousands of years ago and in the Torah, is not practiced by any Jews anymore. ( It is still legal and common in Muslim countries).
Slavery, also common in those days and reflected In the Torah, had so many onerous conditions put on the practice in Judiasm that it became a practice that just didn't work. The slavery trade was primarily Muslim, by the way, and any that still exists is in Muslim countries.
It is not a matter of what is written in the texts but more how the people actually believe and behave. Wide spread rape and forced marriages to rapists haven't occurred in Jewry for at least 1,500 years....my best estimate. All these abominations against women happen all the time in Muslim countries and Muslim areas to this very day!.
There is also a mistake about "putting their mouths on the genitals of newborn boys ....". The requirement, symbolyzing the Covenat, is that blood must be drawn. It can be less than a drop. Occasionally, a tiny amount of blood is extracted through a tiny glass tube that the circumcisor may use but at NO time does he ever put his mouth on the genitals of the newborn.
I love these experts on the Jewish religion who don't know what they are talking about.

Anson,
ReplyDeleteAre you suggesting that this reported incident involving a rabbi infecting a baby with herpes represents something something common or a trend as opposed to what happens to women in the Middle East?
Miggie is correct. (Gary is dialing 911 again). A Talmudic scholar who has patiently answered many questions I had about the Torah and the Nevi'im observed that in this, as in many other injunctions, there is a parallel right of the woman concerned to refuse... also as to the duty of a man to give his deceased brother's widow children... the widow may, and often did, refuse. In an ancient context, the law as stated did provide a kind of security for some women, who might never be seen as marriageable after being "defiled," and served as a warning against casual rape without subsequent responsibilities. In many Christian areas such laws have also been mis-used by men who wanted to marry the girl, were refused, and figured once he raped her she'd have to accept him.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I note that Jews emigrating from Arabic territories to Israel often ARE in polygamous marriages, because the practice was abandoned only in Europe, where it caused friction with already hostile Romanized Christian neighbors.
Siarlys,
ReplyDeleteThere were recent reports on the forcible rapes in Norway for either 2010 or 2011. The total number was 86. Guess what the breakdown on perps was. I'll give you a hint. 100% were comitted by one particular group. You can do the rest.
Norway? I thought we were talking about Jordan. However, it doesn't entirely surprise me that young men raised in a culture where a "good girl" could be identified by her long flowing robes and male escort, would consider females walking alone with bare legs to be fair game. This requires an attitude adjustment. You mention "perps." I take it these unadjusted young men have been identified and arrested?
