Not a Chicago value

The only time I ever visited a Chick-fil-A joint was several years ago in Greensboro, North Carolina. It was also the last time. I thought I really was eating a chick-uncooked, no less. Suffice to say I am no fan of this chain. However, it strikes me as an over-reaction, to say the least, on the part of the mayors of Chicago and Boston to try and deny franchise rights to Chick-fil-A in their towns simply because the owner has expressed his personal opposition to same sex marriages. I will also agree with the many legal opinions I have heard expressed that they are opening themselves up to a lawsuit once they try to deny the company the right to open a restaurant.  Of course, one could argue that the strong-arm tactics of Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel truly do represent a "Chicago value".

  1. Correction:

Your Chicago Voting Station is where the voters reside. This is where the voting happens. Or is it where the ballots go to be counted?

  2. Gary,

You forgot to mention that Rahm will be using Farrakahn's army of Nation of Islam troops to enforce the Chicago way on the streets of that city and and transgressors who try to visit Chick-fil-A for lunch or dinner. If more troops are needed, Rahm could consider the New Black Panthers, with the sanction of Eric Holder.

  3. Who cares whether a business reflects Chicago values? Business permitting codes either operate in a "viewpoint neutral manner" or the Supreme Court corrects the local officials. Over and done.

Anyway, Chicago has a population of six million or so. I doubt there is ANY consensus on what Chicago values are.

But Gary, your photos are out of date. Jeremiah Wright is not on speaking terms with his errant former parishioner, whose election as President of the United States has crushed so many of Rev. Wright's core notions about America. Too bad, so sad.

Squid, you obviously know nothing about any branch of the Black Muslim / Nation of Islam movement. They are all "family values" people, who would fully support Chick-Fil-A on this issue.

I've never eaten at Chick-Fil-A, but many of the ladies at my church, when I lived in the D.C. area, loved it. I wouldn't mind trying it, if they cook the meat thoroughly.

  4. Siarlys,

The Nation of Islam also killed Malcolm Xon the orders of the "Honorable" Elijah Mohammed when he strayed from the family, so to speak.

  5. That has never been proven Gary, but I believe it very probably to be true. Malcolm X came back from the Hajj to Mecca having his eyes opened by the fact that there were Muslims of every color, not just black, reached out to Americans considered "white," as well as to Martin Luther King... true Islam worked a wonderful change on Malcolm. That certainly blew Elijah's little game.

What does all this have to do with whether a Jewish mayor could get Louis Farrakhan to sent his thugs to trash Chick-Fil-A in support of gay marriage?
