Is George Zimmerman a Racist?

Here is a new twist to the Trayvon Martin-George Zimmerman saga. The below video shows a homeless black man being attacked from behind by a white male. This occurred in December 2010 in Sanford, Florida.

The attacker was a local thug named  Justin Collison, who happened to be the son of a local police officer. In spite of the video, weeks went by and no arrest was made. Now read the below report from Daily Caller. The article centers around a letter reportedly written to the NAACP by a Zimmerman family member.

If the facts in that letter from a Zimmerman family member to the NAACP are accurate, do you still think George Zimmerman is a racist? Many are actually scrambling to define what Zimmerman's race is since his father is a white Anglo and his mother Hispanic. Now they are referring to George as a "white Hispanic".

How convenient.

I don't see how what a letter from one of Zimmerman's family members has to do with whether George Zimmerman is a racist or not. Maybe non-racists have racist family members. (For the record, I do not know if he is one, as there's no way to tell if he would have followed a white teenager for the same reasons.)

  2. Al Sharpton is a racist.
    Jesse Jackson is a racist.
    Barack Obama is a racist.

    George Zimmerman is not.

There is a lot we don't know. We don't know who initiated the struggle. We don't know the exact circumstances under which Zimmerman drew his weapon and under what circumstances he fired the weapon. We may never know.

That a conviction does not make. In fact. if the DA cannot answer those questions, an arrest is not warranted.

  4. We do know that Zimmerman was told not to continue following Martin, and he continued to do so anyway. We also know that Martin wasn't armed. We also know that the screams heard on the recordings were not likely to be Zimmerman's (according to forensics experts).

I do like how Findalis feels that she has enough information to declare that Zimmerman most definitely is NOT a racist.

  5. Hmmmmm. I believe it was the New York Times, or at least it was reported that the NYT, used the term "white Hispanic" (whatever that is), in print.

That being the case, and just to select someone at random, that must make Mr. Obama either a "white Black" or a black White", and would I not get in trouble if I called him that??

This post did not address those issues you raised. You are getting into things not establsihed. Zimemrman says he lost sight of Martin and was walking back to his care when Martin came up to him, asked him if he had a problem and then struck him, breaking his nose and knocking him to pavement, threatened to kill him as he was on top of him beating him. That is Zimmerman's side. True? I don't know and either do you. What neither you nor I know is how they came face to face and who initiated the violence, and under what circumstance Zimmerman drew his gun and under what circumsatnce, he fired. That is the crux of the case. That is where his guilt or innocence lies. As for who was scrteaming, we have two different versions. If Zimmerman was on top and beating Martin then shot him, and that can be proven then Zimmerman is guilty. If Zimmerman was being beaten-and was in fear of his life- that is a different story.

  7. We do have two different versions of who did the screaming, but one of the versions flies in the face of the evidence.

In the face of unidentified voice experts, I will await the findings of the police investigation. I am sure that will be included.

  9. Unidentified? The article names two different ones:

"'The tests concluded that it's not the voice of Mr. Zimmerman,' Tom Owen, of Owen Forensic Services LLC and chair emeritus for the American Board of Recorded Evidence said."

"The Sentinel said that Ed Primeau, a Michigan-based audio engineer and forensics expert, came to the same conclusion.

'I believe that's Trayvon Martin in the background, without a doubt," Primeau says, stressing that the tone of the voice is a giveaway. "That's a young man screaming.'"

You are right to suggest that it's wrong to jump to conclusions regarding Zimmerman's guilt, but you seem to be taking things to the other extreme.

Well excuuuuse me. Had I know that it was Tom Owen and Ed Primeau, I would have accepted that in a heartbeat. If you have ever been to a trial, you will find that both sides can produce experts with exact opposite opinions.

Having said that, from listening to the tape, it sounded like a kid to me, but I am no expert and when people are in fear for their life and screaming, I guess their voice can rise a few octaves. What is there 10 years difference in their ages?

No I am not trying to acquit Zimmerman. I am merely saying that the media, politicians and people like Sharpton are wrong to convict him in the public eye. It is beyond irresponsible. What I am saying is that I don't know if there is enough to charge Zimmerman at this point. It may well have been self-defense, but I don't know.

    Either do you.
