Kristallnacht is "Commemorated" in New York

GRIM: Burned-out cars and messages of hate, including swastikas and “KKK,' are a sad spectacle on Ocean Parkway in Brooklyn yesterday.
Brooklyn 2011                                                         Berlin 1938

On the anniversary of Germany's 1938 Kristallnacht (Night of Broken Glass), vandals attacked cars in a heavily Jewish neighborhood in New York.

It is still yet to be determined who carried out these acts, but is it premature to draw a link between last night's events and the Occupy Wall Street protests that have featured anti-Semitic posters and statements? Whether the vandals were Wall Street protesters or not, it is fair to say that the expressions of anti-Semitism at OWS have probably inspired these latest acts. There have been too many expressions of Jews controlling Wall Street and banks to deny any connection, direct or indirect.

I think we all need to stop and consider the direction we are headed here. It is a proven fact that Jews represent the proverbial "canary in the coal mine". When economic times start going bad, you hear the blame shifted toward Jews. We have already seen Jews worldwide being blamed for the Israel-Palestinian conflict. Now the old canards are being brought back about Jews controlling all the power, the banks, and the wealth. Is it any wonder that last night's vandalism occurred?

It would be helpful if the President who was supposed to bring us together would make some sort of public condemnation of this resurgent anti-Semitism. Thus far, he has refused to make any public statement about the disgraceful actions that these protesters are committing across the country. How can he? When all the facts come out, we are going to learn that he and his entire Democratic aparatus are behind this Occupy movement meant as a counterweight to the Tea Party. It has been a disasterous miscalculation. In my view, they have created a monster that will consume them.

God help this nation if the Occupy forces are victorious. They represent something truly ugly.

  1. I grew up in this neighborhood, a few blocks from where this happened. Yes the Jewish community there is in shock. Yes they are pissed off. And yes they blame the Mayor and his policy of appeasement.

We are getting the message very clear and many are planning to leave the US. You Christians have made it plain we are not welcomed here.

  2. Findalis,

Don't leave. This is your country. Fight it.

  3. Yes, it is premature.

In fact, it is premature to say that the windows were broken because there are Jewish people in the neighborhood, or that the perps had any idea it was the anniversary of Krystallnacht.

It could be true, but it is not established. I recall some years back police were trying to track down a gang of nihilists who were systematically smashing car windows, one whole block at a time, in a certain neighborhood. Turned out, it was being done by the owner of an auto glass installation shop, who found business a little slow.

Ah, Findalis is now blaming Christians rather than Muslims. In the long view of history, that makes sense. In the immediate sense, it is perhaps paranoid. I note in her favor however, that an arcane clique has shown up at Alexandria and at The American Conservative who seem devoted to Ernst Rohm and the SA, merely bemoaning that Hitler cut a deal with the Krupps, I.G. Farben, and the Wehrmacht. So, there is a kernel of Christian anti-Semitism running around somewhere.

  4. Don't expect Obama to condemn the anti-Semitism in the Occupy movements. These people are his base. He has treated Israel as they would have. Forget that Israel, over time, has voted with the US in the UN more than any other ally. Obama betrays our best ally and the Occupy people have found a common cause with him.

One may agree or not with them but it should be clear that Obama and the Occupy movement are allied. If you like what you see in the Occupy scene, vote for Obama. If you want a dramatic change in foreign and domestic policy, vote for whoever the Republican candidate may be.

  5. Where are you moving to Findalis? And more to the point, who authorized you to speak for them?

  6. I am looking at Ma'alot or Kiryat Tivon. Ma'alot is on the Lebanese border but has good job opportunities. Kiryat Tivon is on the Med. About 15 miles south of Haifa.

I'd move to Haifa, but the cost of a house there is too expensive.

You should have been at the synagogue yesterday. We as a people are reminded that after Kristallnicht the Jewish community was reassured that nothing else would happen. Those who didn't listen got out of Germany, got out of Europe and lived.

  7. Findalis,

The future of American Jews is right here in America. Do not ever forget that.

  8. Finddalis expresses the reason Israel is so important, so crucial, to Jews worldwide. We have a long bitter history living in the Diaspora. Some are more sensitive than others about anti-Semitic incidents and circumstances. We all know, or should know what leads to what. Even in pre WWII Germany and Poland Jews had many high level positions in the arts, commerce, and medicine. It did them no good. Pessimists among us believe no place is safe. The optimists believe America is fundamentally different.

In any event, the Jewish people need a homeland.... A place they can call their own. They have fought for this land, they have bought it, they have defended it and they have all the other indicia of sovereignty that all other countries have. That they have created a vibrant, thriving, democracy is another consideration that may influence Findalis. Given the Jewish leadership now parallels the Jewish leadership in the 1930s, I can understand Findalis' position.

  9. The first thing I notice is that no-one has bounced back to recite any evidence that the the motive for the car windows to be smashed WAS in fact anti-Semitism.

If Findalis thinks her life will be better in Kiryat Tivon, maybe that is best for her. I still doubt that "the Jews" are all going to leave the USA with her. She speaks for Findalis, not for "us." Nor is there any coherent majority analogous to the anti-Semitism in Europe. You have the same kind of martyr-envy that American Christians are developing.

Miggie reminds me of the not-illogical Arab argument that if the Jews of Europe needed a homeland where they would be sovereign, why should the Arabs pay the price for that? Why not given some land in Europe, carved out from the people responsible for their oppression? That is water under the bridge now, but its still worth thinking about when casting aspersions.
