We Are Sending Troops WHERE?
Joseph Kony
Get those drones ready.
Today, it has been announced that the US is sending 100 military personnel to somewhere in Central Africa (Uganda actually ) to act as advisers to the government engaged in combat against the Lord's Resistance Army.

The Lord's Resistance Army!!??
What in the world are we getting involved in now, for Heavens sakes? Don't we have enough overseas combat operations going on? Now ewe have discovered some group of bad guys in Africa that need to be fought.
I don't doubt that these are bad guys-though I had never heard of them before, but don't the Africans have a unified military force that could handle this? I believe it is called the African Union, or something like that.
No, I am not going to take the time to look up the exact name.
Are any of you readers old enough to remember how we first sent military advisers to Viet Nam-advisers who were not going to get into actual operations? Look how that turned out.
I have pretty much come to the conclusion that it is time to declare victory in the Middle East (inc Afghanistan) and get our troops out. We are not going to create anything there that hasn't existed for thousands of years.
And we certainly aren't going to change anything in Africa.
Just watch and see how this escalates. Quagmire, anyone?
Oblamebush probably watched Machinegun Preacher and figured it was a good excuse to start on occupation of Africa.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I remember Vietnam. The difference here is, almost nobody in Uganda sympathizes with the LRA. In Vietnam, President Eisenhower freely admitted that in a free election, Ho Chi Minh would have gotten 80 percent of the vote.
ReplyDeleteTaking out Joseph Kony is a great idea -- particularly given that Uganda and Kenya now have to cope with raids from the Shabab in Somalia. As Senator McCain told Wolf Blitzer, this is a particularly violent and vicious band that needs to be exterminated from the face of the earth.
Support our troops!
It's a tough call.
ReplyDeleteIf we are going to act morally then we better have the military to back it up.
Cutting the defense budget by $500 billion that is now on the table will end that capability.
I think Obama is trying to embellish his "getting tough with terrorists" image. Then again, it is tough to be bystanders to these atrocities.
We can't be involved and disengaged simultaneously. Picking and choosing which atrocity Obama will respond to is like Eric Holder's selective prosecutions. It depends on who the victims are.
.
Exterminate them, yes. Who has to to do it? The French Foreign Legion, perhaps?
ReplyDeleteWhy always us?
Right now, we have a better rep in east Africa than the French Foreign Legion.
ReplyDeleteSen James Inhofer of Oklahoma supports this action. He's a conservative Republican last I checked. It's been a while since farmers in Oklahoma voted socialist.
