Guns-From DOJ to Major Cartel Leader

How does Eric Holder and the Department of Justice explain this?

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/10/09/guns-from-operation-fast-and-furious-found-in-home-suspected-mexican-drug/

For all you folks who are saying, "Nothing to see here, folks-move on", I ask you; how can our government conduct an operation whereby guns leave the US under government surveillance whereby they find their way into the possession of major drug cartels in Mexico?

If that makes sense to you, I want to hear from you.

  1. This is clearly an ideology driven administration that intends by any method, legal or not, to impose their agenda. The left wants big government, more taxes, more entitlements, more people dependent on the government, more people and companies following the rules and regulations that each and every department and bureaucrat imposes.... choking off business and the economy and siphoning off salaries and pensions for themselves in the process. In a word, SOCIALISM.

The founding fathers and the people debating the ratification of the Constitution were always supremely concerned with a central government that would impose on their hard won liberty. That's how the Bill of Rights came about.

The left is in direct opposition to the founding principles and the free market place that made this (until this administration) the most abundant and powerful country in history.

Because the left likes a disarmed public and thinks guns in themselves cause crime, they undertake a stupid plan to discredit guns. Of course the plan is mishandled and ends up an unmitigated disaster, like all their other schemes and policies.

Now they have to lie and dissemble about who was personally responsible. Of course it was Holder and Obama. This was too big for them not to have known and approved and if not, and they did not know what their departments were doing, they should be impeached for sheer incompetence.

The election can't come soon enough. There is a pretty good chance that Obama will pull an LBJ kind of withdrawal.

  2. Are you blind Gary?

For years, the cartels have been building up an arsenal that out-guns the Mexican police, and rivals that of the army and navy. Almost all of those guns seem to be coming from American gun dealers. So, with this huge flow very much part of the landscape, someone finally had the bright idea to study the flow. Who knows, with enough data, it might be possible to actually restrict the flow or prosecute some of the sources?

For your own ulterior motives, you present this as if the ATF invented the whole flow of guns from American dealers to the cartels.

I still suspect what is really behind all this is that gun dealers who ARE profiting from this illicit trade, but who also have good NRA and Republican political connections, are trying to shut the operation down before they actually lose business or go to prison.

Of course a retired DEA agent would NEVER consider that possibility -- not when he has a chance to try to embarrass the Obama administration.

  3. Siarlys,

Mexico has always had plenty of guns. Sure they are getting a lot from thge US, but probably not 80-90%. You still think the gun dealers are real culprits. The guns we are talking about involved gun dealers cooperating with ATF. And I have made it very clear that I don't think this idea sprang from ATF. It came from political operatives and hires in DOJ and or White House.

    Good grief!

  4. Yes, you've made it clear what you choose to think. You have not made clear any evidence to support your opinion. Then all you can say is "good grief" because someone who is not your ideological bosom buddy asks for evidence or offers alternate scenarios that are equally plausible, or more so.

It is also not clear that the guns we are talking about involved gun dealers cooperating with the ATF. Why were "straw buyers" necessary if the gun dealers were cooperating? Why not "straw sellers" dealing with REAL cartel agents? Your man Issa is kicking up such a cloud of partisan dust we may never know anything so esoteric as what are the facts and what is the evidence.

  5. P.S. Miggie should have said "the left likes a disarmed drug cartel." What does arming drug cartels have to do with liberty? Has it escaped you that the drug cartels are running the most fundamental form of dictatorship known to man? The Second Amendment was supposed to help us fend off the rule of such organized mobs, not facilitate it.
