Good News! The King of Saudi Arabia has announced that women will be able to vote-in 4 years. Susan B Anthony would be proud.

President Obama must be grateful.
Now for the bad news. Saudi woman to get ten lashes for driving.

"Ten lashes for driving under the influence, by Jove?"
No. Ten lashes for driving.
This is the same country that is sending millions to US universities to establish Middle Eastern Studies departments staffed with anti-Israel activist professors. This is the same country that we are dependent on for oil because we won't drill more in our own territory.
Doesn't make a lot of sense, does it?
This is a joke. Women get the right to vote but not the right to leave the house. Not the right to drive a car. Not the right to work. Not the right to leave the country. Not the right to see a doctor.
ReplyDeleteHis great asshole can keep the right to vote, grant the other rights first.
There were several models of automobile available in 1900. The "free markets" settled on building infrastructure for the one that depended on a flow of oil. We've been paying the Saudis the money to build all those university departments (and, more dangerous, madrassahs in countries that never heard of Wahabbi Islam) ever since. Bad decision.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, people seem to be making hay out of President Obama exercising local courtesies on diplomatic visits. When I was in 8th grade, we watched "historical" movies which portrayed American diplomats declining to bow to royalty, because WE were a REPUBLIC and didn't do such things. This is a lie. The more accurate picture is portrayed in the TV series on John Adams. He indulged every step of the three stage series of bows expected of diplomats approaching an interview with King George III. (He could afford to of course -- we had won our revolution by then. He was an ambassador. But bow he did.) I bet every other president has too. Just that nobody considered it newsworthy before. Or, maybe they didn't bother to visit at all.
