$600 Million to the Palestinian Authority-To Pay Imprisoned Terrorists

"Wanna contribute to a worthy cause?"

Hat tip to Vlad Tepes

This story has been going around for a couple of weeks now, and I think the American tax-payer deserves to know. First of all, the US government is handing over 600 million dollars a year to the Palestinian Authority. And what does the PA do with this money? Part of it goes to pay monthly stipends to imprisoned terrorists who are locked up in Israeli prisons. Vlad Tepes has the report.

At 5 million dollars a month to terrorist prisoners, that means about 10% of the annual handout to the PA goes to support imprisoned terrorists. Of course, given our current budget and debt problems, might I suggest that here is where we could save some money? Silly me.

  1. It might save a little money, but it wouldn't save 1% of the interest on even the part of the debt that George W. Bush ran up.

If you look at the books, I suspect that you would find any U.S. money paid to the PA is allocated to specific purposes. There are other income streams, like customs duties, or contributions from Arab nations, to cover this sort of expenditure.

The PA naturally feels some responsibility to men who were acting under orders of constituent Palestinian organizations, rightly or wrongly. If that much money is involved, a good part of it is probably for the support of their wives and children - you send the family breadwinner off on a fool's errand, the least you can do is provide for those left behind, no? There is only so much a prisoner can spend at the commissary.

Bottom line though, the PA is the best hope Israel has for peace. If it fails, the resulting chaos and hopelessness in the West Bank civilian population, and opportunity to whip up public sentiment in surrounding nations, will multiply the rain of missiles ten-fold, rather than bring it to an end. Is it worth "cutting spending" if the net result is the destruction of Israel?

  2. Here is where some of the other $600 million is going: http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/146562:

"A resident of Rosh Tzurim, a kibbutz in Israel's Gush Etzion bloc south of Jerusalem, stopped his car at a junction and exited the vehicle, momentarily leaving his five year old daughter inside.

While he was outside the vehicle a thief jumped into the vehicle and drove off with the girl inside.

The shocked father called security forces who rushed to the junction and issued an alert for the vehicle and girl.

According to one report, an off-duty Palestinian Authority policeman spotted the girl at the entrance to the village of Al Aroub and returned her to Israeli authorities at the junction.

The girl was reportedly in good condition. Security forces have mounted a manhunt for the thief and the car."

  3. Matan,

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't the Fogel family killers have some connection to the PA security forces?
