Netanyahu Schools Obama

"Revenge is a plate best served cold"

.......As President Obama learned to his chagrin today during the joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House. In the wake of his previous treatment by Obama in the White House and the President's statement this week about those pre-1967 borders, Netanyahu was clearly in no mood for any more.

After Obama gave his opening remarks, Netanyahu began his own. He followed the rules of diplomatic speak in front of the press. But in no time, he was leaning in and facing Obama and telling him in polite but no uncertain terms that Israel would not even consider going back to the (indefensible) pre-1967 borders. He also made it clear to Obama and the world that there would be no accepting the descendants of the 1948 Palestinian refugees and no negotiation with that terrorist entity known as Hamas.

It was akin to Churchill giving the facts of life to Chamberlain.

If you read body language, you would conclude that Obama, leaning back with his legs crossed, was not enjoying the experience. He was probably simmering with anger inside. His own words about his concern for Israel's security indicate he probably gave ground to Netanyahu during their private talk.

Netanyahu, a man who has been fighting for his country's survival since Obama was in diapers, had to wait a long time to repay the brash American president for his previous show of disrespect.

It was worth it.

  1. Netanyahoo is bidding fair to destroy his country. President Obama is not only doing the right thing for America, he is doing what would be best for Israel if Israel had not devolved into a mix of complacency and arrogance.

Gary Fouse, in this instance, is reminding me of what people said some years back about the Dixie Chix... something like, you shouldn't dis your own president in front of foreigners...

Incidentally, Churchill and Chamberlain were not only subjects of the same monarch (there are no British citizens), but they were members of the same party. A mite different from two heads of two different states, in my seldom humble opinion.

  2. Prime Minister Netanyahu knew that he had to put Obama in his place. The day before their meeting, Obama states that Israel must consider going back to the 1967 boarders. Obama did mention that Israel needs to be recognized as a State and exist in peace. But, that is not the desire of Hamas. Pulling out of Gaza should have shown Obama that giving up land will not create peace, but a rain of rockets.
Considering Obama's behavior and what he preaches, Netanyahu was smart to set the conditions straight for Obama. After all, Netanyahu knew that Obama stated he would side with the Muslims, in his book "Audacity of Hope". Also, how does one trust anyone who has such anti-Semitic friends such as:
Jeremiah Wright, Bill Ayers, B. Dorhn, Khalidd al-Mansour, Rashid Khlidi, Jody Evans, Monir Edwan (from Rafah Gaza), Samantha Powers and Ingrid Matson.

  3. Siarlys and Obama know better what is best for Israel, even better than the Israelis. What colossal stupidity and hubris!!

Of all the ridiculous statements you've made here, this one is the worst.

  4. Since I always agree with Siarys I would like to suggest that you Gary, Squid and Miggie pack your bags and move to Israel, and all three of you are traitors the way you backstab our president and rub your hands thinking that he was put in his place. Do you really think that Netanyahoo (I like that) cares about having peace......

  5. Miggie, I am deeply hurt that I do not have your unrestrained approval and adulation...

...I would be perfectly willing to let the Israelis go to hell in a handbasket on their own, but then people like you would moan that we must save them from their folly. Frankly, the prospect of a few million men, women and children being slaughtered for the obtuseness of their current leadership, albeit elected, would be good grounds for intervention -- even though Gary says we should NOT do that in Libya.

Like it or not, our future is somewhat tied to Israel's, and that, like it or not, gives us Americans the right to opine on what Israel should be doing, particularly if they are expecting us to help them out.

Netanyahu was rude and crude, but there was every reason for President Obama to EXPECT that and to handle it or brush it off. It wasn't a surprise.
