Santa Monica Synagogue Blast Was a Pipe Bomb

The latest on the Santa Monica Chabad House explosion Thursday is that it was, indeed, a pipe bomb. There is a suspect who is being hunted, a 60-year-old transient named Ron Hirsch, who frequents synagues seeking charity. His picture is contained in the below NBC News link.

  1. Obviously, the way to protect synagogues and other places from pipe bombs is to round up all the crazy people prone to violence.

This reminds me of a sam harris video I saw on youtube recently.

We are lucky in the US that we get many crazy Muslims. Many of the Arabs or Persians in my area left their country got to escape from the religious extremists.

Not that we don't have our own problems like a recent poll in Miss when 46% of Republican primary voters believe interracial marriage should be illegal or in Tenn where they just passed a bill so creationism can be taught along with evolution.

The hope has to be that moderates drag the radicals to become moderate. If someone is crazy whatever the religion, they are crazy. There are going to be outliers.

  2. When I read something like this below, I am going to take the AFI leader more seriously than the MSU leader. The AFI has more creditability in my mind. I may end up rejecting what he says but I am more willing to listen to his views since he is willing to hear and discuss different perspectives.
