The Lockerbie Scandal

A report released after an investigation by four Democratic senators charges that the release of the Pan Am bomber by Scottish authorities was done as a result of British pressure to protect a 900 million dollar oil deal with Libya involving BP. This, of course, is what we always suspected.

What the report does not explain is the involvement of the American government. Indeed, the US Government is hardly mentioned other than noting that the release was a violation of an agreement between the UK and US governments. The document also calls on the State Dept. to launch an investigation into the release.

Here is the report: "Justice Undone"

If true, this is a major blight on our relationship with Great Britain. What kind of nation have they become?

It is also time to do a serious investigation into what, if anything, the US did to allow this deal to go through. Just how strenuously did we "object" to the release before it happened? Did we give tacit approval-a diplomatic wink wink, nod nod? For starters, it is time to bring Secretary of State Hillary Clinton before Congress to testify under oath about this whole sordid story.

  1. Under the UK's devolved system of government, the decision was made by the Scottish government. Examine how little the Westminster government could do about that, before you create faux scandals in our own country.

Although one can certainly object to this decision, the fact that it was a Scottish decision to make could be described at bringing to Scotland a measure of the independence from imperial rule that our own ancestors wrested from George III some 234 years ago.

One can't violate a constitutional framework just because someone made a stupid decision, now, can we? What would Sarah and Michelle say? Or would they know what to say?

  2. Every time someone in the West complains this useless waste of flesh has not died, Libya sends out a bulletin that he is at deaths door.

I now believe he never had the cancer in the first place.

  3. Well, the place to start would be to ask for the medical evidence relied on by the Scottish doctor and Scottish government in making the decision to release him.
