Kalifornia's Next Governor

Take your choice

In case you didn't know it, the "reign" of Governor Arnold Katzenjammer is coming to an end. Yes, the "Republican conservative", who promised to bring fiscal responsibility to the bankrupt state of Kalifornia under Grey Davis (after we booted the latter out) is leaving a state that is.....bankrupt.

That's right. It's September, and as usual, we're some 40 billion in the hole, and the state budget is over 2 months overdue (July 1) because the Democrats and the handful of Republicans in Sacramento can't agree on what time it is let alone pass a budget.

And guess who is running for governor as the Democrat candidate. Here's a clue...

That's right. Former failed governor, failed mayor of Oakland, and failed attorney general, "Run-Down" Jerry Brown.

"Uh wunnerful ah wunnerful..ah"

For those of you UC Santa Cruz Community Studies majors, Jerry Brown was governor of Kalifornia some 30 years ago. (Your teachers will tell you he was a great guy.) He made a mess of things (let the highways crumble and handed over government workers to the unions) then went on to run for president in the 1990s, where he did the greatest thing of his life; he insulted Hillary Clinton and incurred the wrath of Mr Chivalry himself, Bill Clinton, who told Brown that he (Brown) wasn't fit to stand on the same stage with Hillary. Of course, all is forgiven now that Brown has (this week) apologized for the insults, and Bill is endorsing the man who wasn't fit to stand on the same stage with Hillary as governor. That's politics.

"That's right!"

But help is on the way in the person of Republican candidate and E-Bay founder Meg Whitman....

That's right. If you want to predict how Meg Whitman would be as governor, here's a clue....

If you want to know how Whitman stands on the issues, well, you have to ask two sets of people; there's those who listen to one speech and there's those who listen to the other speech. Meg has two positions on every issue depending on who she's speaking to. If she's speaking to a secure borders crowd, she's for securing the border. If she's speaking to a liberal, Hispanic advocacy group, she's for "comprehensive immigration reform". And so it goes.

What's the word....

RINO. That's right. Just like Arnie.

The end conclusion is that if she is elected, she will be unable to stand up to the wild-spending Democrats in Sacramento and things will plod along as they have.

If Jerry is elected, we already have the blueprint based on his prior wacky term as governor.

Of course, Jerry doesn't want to tell us what he'll do as witnessed by the recent column by Debra Saunders at SFGate, who recently interviewed the once and maybe-future Gov Brown.

Saunders-

"I asked him what he, as governor, would do that state employee labor unions, which are spending millions to get him elected, won't like. He answered, "Well, I'm certainly not going to tell you now."

"Whadda ya mean youse ain't gonna vote for Jerry?"

And: "I'm not going to reveal my negotiating strategy now. I'm going to try to push everybody together."

Also: "The next governor has to be an honest broker, somebody that people feel is being straight and is talking to them in a real way. I think I can do that."

When Editorial Page Editor John Diaz asked what tough calls Brown was willing to make, he answered, "There's only a process that will lead us to where we're going."

"...by Jove."

When Diaz asked how Brown might want to change Proposition 13, Brown said he had no plans to change Prop. 13 in his notebook. But: "The way I would put it is, everything is on the table and everyone's at the table."

Here's a preview:

Today, Jerry appeared on Channel 11 in LA to announce a civil law suit against the crooks in the Bell city government who stole hundreds of thousands of dollars. Of course, no criminal indictments. Attorney General Brown was never very good at that. At the end, he was asked if he will go back on the John and Ken (radio talk jocks) Show (KFI 640). Here's his answer (Hat tip to John and Ken Show):

Brown was interviewed a month ago by John and Ken but has not returned in spite of repeated requests. The reference to "kids calling his cell number" is to a young 14-year-old kid who won a John and Ken contest and got Brown's personal cell pnone number as a prize, so he could call and ask Brown any question he wanted. When he called, the line was busy. He left a message but has never gotten a response.

So what do I do come November? Flip a coin and vote for Whitman. Besides, she announced today that to date, she has spent over $119 million of her own money in this campaign for governor. We can't let that go to waste now, can we?

  1. Considering the choices, I'm just glad I don't live in California. When Harley had its 100th anniversary parade in Milwaukee, a woman came riding through with a banner behind her bike "I'm From California and I'm Running for Governor." Maybe you should have elected her.

Governor Moonbeam vs. Meg Whitman? I'd be looking for a right-in candidate. Any write-in candidate.

  2. If you get Jerry again you will be sunk in 6 months.
Think of that one when you vote.

  3. Thank God I don't vote in California. We have a Republican moonbeam to vote down in Wisconsin. Gary's getting rich off of all the times I click on his google ads over here. He keeps all his plans for creating 250,000 new jobs in an empty brown paper bag, and the outside of the bag is all he's letting voters see until he's elected. Hopefully that bluff will never be called, and he can go back to lying about the county budget he's already responsible for.
