Approximately 3-4,000 people gathered in front of the Israeli Consulate in Los Angeles this afternoon to show support for Israel. Speakers included Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann (R-MN), Jon Voight, Chuck DeVore (Republican candidate for Senator), Congressman Brad Sherman D-CA) and several Jewish rabbis and Christian pastors. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger also attended. There were no counter-demonstrators. According to a good friend, who got a front row seat, it was an impressive display for support for Israel on the part of the Jewish and Christian community. There was another message that rang out; there will be no Islamic takeover in America.

ReplyDeleteOh, phew, what a relief! I was really worried about that one!
Bump,
ReplyDeleteI wish I could give you reassuring answers. Unfortunately, I can't. It's all very depressing.
Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteSorry if I unnecessarily alarmed you. You can go back to sleep now.
Glad to know there is more support for Israel, qua Israel, in Los Angeles, than one high school student. Touting the appearance of Michelle Bachmann at such an event is rather like welcoming Bernie Madoff to a Rand Paul rally. The discordance, and the superficiality of any common ground, is blatant.
ReplyDeleteSiarlys,
ReplyDeleteOK, so you don't like Michelle Bachmann. I do. I am glad she came out to LA for the event.
You like Michelle Bachmann? Holy Christ, why? She's a habitual liar and a disgusting homophobe. (And you know that I don't use that term lightly, Gary. Look up the things she's said about gays. I KNOW that it doesn't line up with the way you feel, and if you heard anybody else say it, you would find it offensive. And no, I'm not just talking about her being against gay marriage.)
ReplyDeleteYes, I like her. I am unaware of her being a liar and homophobe.
ReplyDeleteYou're not paying attention to her then. I can give you examples if you really want them, but it's pretty bad. (I seem to recall that I have at least once before...)
ReplyDeleteGary's posts show that he often doesn't pay attention to the objects of his political affection, but has a kind of knee-jerk respect for those not appreciated by the brand of superficial California pseudo-leftist he properly despises. The enemy of your enemy is not your friend. I've read some material by some of Bachmann's constituents who have hopes of dumping her this year. I hope they do. As a midwesterner, I find her a real embarrassment.
ReplyDeleteSiarlys,
ReplyDeleteIf I recall, you are from Wisconsin. It is the people of Minnesota who have elected her. I guess a majority of them don't consider her an embarrassment.
