George Galloway and Barack Obama
George Galloway and Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh
People who thought there would be consequences for British buffoon and ex-MP George Galloway collecting funds for "Gaza relief" (read Hamas) in the US might look at what our own president has done. It has just been announced that President Obama has authorized $400 million to Gaza and the West Bank.
Of course, that is not for Hamas; it is for the people of Gaza, wink wink, nod nod.
Isn't that what Galloway insisted? He told us at UC-Irvine, "I am not a supporter of Hamas." (I was there.) Then as soon as he lands in Gaza, he is shown doing the abrazo with Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and proclaiming that he was delivering his Viva Palestina goodies to "the elected government of Gaza" (Hamas).
So does anybody seriously think that the Treasury Department or the Justice Department is going to indict Galloway and his fellow fund-raisers in the US for collecting millions for Hamas-a US-designated terrorist organization?
Hardly. Everybody is washing their hands when it comes to Galloway. As I just posted today, UC Irvine has finally concluded their investigation and determined that no university official violated any rules when Galloway spoke at UCI on May 21, 2009 and boxes were passed around the room in full view of university officials. The university paperwork associated with the event said zilch about the event being a fund-raiser (which was required).
No harm, no foul.
Now we learn that Obama has authorized $400 million to the West Bank and Gaza-not for Hamas, mind you, but for the people of Gaza.
Right.
Excuse the non-sequitor. I can't find any direct contact info on your blog. Just wanted to alert you to the fact that Jewish Voice for Peace is launching a major campaign on monday to try and pressure Tiaa cref, a financial services company, to divest from companies doing business in Israel.
ReplyDeleteMany teachers and academics have their pensions with Tiaa cref. If you do, please give them a call and tell them not to give in to special interest bullying
I suspect that if the money President Obama discussed goes anywhere, it will go through the Palestinian Authority.
ReplyDeleteOh, that makes me feel a lot better. Maybe to finance more of that PA TV.
ReplyDeleteIf you were paying attention, there is a very business minded prime minister in the west bank who is methodically building an economy that can put young men to work for wages before they find suicide bombing an attractive alternative, and a security force that can maintain public order without calling in the IDF. Before Bibi knows what hit him, there is going to be a functioning Palestinian state at peace with Israel, probably an essential trade partner of Israel, and there will be little Bibi can do except recognize the fait accompli. Then, people in Gaza will hear from their relatives in the Jordan Valley how wonderful their lives are, and they will drive Hamas into the sea. Or maybe the Rachel Corrie will come to evacuate them all.
ReplyDeleteI'd be happy to see $400 million of our money spent on such a worthy cause.
Siarlys,
ReplyDeleteI hope your dream pans out, but I still get hung up on those cartoon shows on PA TV and the sermons where the cleric is talking about Jihad, Khaybar and all that stuff.
Khaybar were trade partners of the pagan idolators in Mecca. The Palestinian Authority is going to find that Israel is its largest trading partner.
