Last night, the LA Lakers opened their Western Conference finals by beating the Phoenix Suns aka "Los Suns" at the Staples Center. Since Laker coach Phil Jackson had reacted negatively to the Suns wearing Jerseys reading "Los Suns", the open borders crowd swore to turn out and protest.
Jackson had criticized the Suns' actions as a political intrusion into sports and pointed out that the Arizona law is in conformance with federal law. For that he is being excoriated. So about 40 people turned out to protest in front of the Staples Center, one of whom was a bible-thumping preacher who demanded that the others be arrested and deported.
What really irks is that a couple of fans in the front row were wearing shirts that read, "Viva los 1070" (SB 1070 is the number of the bill in Arizona.) For that, they were approached by security and told to turn their shirts inside out. When they refused, they were taken out of the building. Eventually, the director of security straightened things out, and they were allowed to return with lots of apologies from the Phoenix "Soles" or whatever they call themselves now.
Here's my opinion on the Pehoenix team's uniform statement; they think they are making a statement in support of the Hispanic community. What they are doing is making a statement not just in support of those illegal aliens who come to do an honest day's work, but also in support of the drug smugglers, the human smugglers, the coyotes, the gangs and the kidnappers who have made Phoenix the kidnap capital of the US. Yet, two guys who wear shirts that support the law get escorted out of the Staples Center.
I tell you. I never liked the Lakers, but now it's hard to decide who I want to lose this series. So now Phil Jackson is the bad guy at least with the open borders crowd. Does that mean that if the Lakers win the title again this year, there won't be a riot at the Staples Center?
