Los Angeles: Whoops! Back to 5 Days a Week
"More bad news, mein Fuehrer. The mayor says we have to work five days after all."
"Sheiss! There goes my skiing trip to the Alps."
Yesterday, I reported on Mayor Tony Villaraigosa's announcement that the city of LA would operate on three days a week because they were running out of money.
Well, Tony V has now corrected himself-sort of. Now his deputy chief of staff, Matt Szabo, is "correcting the record" saying that it was only a final "contingency plan".
Actually, it turns out that the mayor doesn't have the authority to shut down city services without the approval of the city council (heh heh). In the meantime, the city is now asking the Department of Water and Power (aka city treasury ) to fork over 20 million bucks instead of the 73 million originally expected.
So all is well in LA, which means the city residents will continue to get screwed 5 days a week after all-at leasst until next month when the city goes broke. At that time, who knows what will happen? Maybe Tony V and his gang of thieves will flee the city to the sanctuary city of San Francisco while the Crips and Bloods move into City Hall.
"C'mon, punk. I'm taking you to City Hall."
