Sheila Dixon, Mayor of Baltimore

Sheila Dixon

No, that's not her booking photo.

With the Christmas season upon us, here is a story that will warm your heart. Sheila Dixon, the Democratic Mayor of Baltimore, has been convicted of embezzling about 600 dollars worth of gift cards intended for needy children, which she converted to her own personal use. She was acquitted of perjury and other assorted corruption charges.

Resign? You must be kidding. Here is her statement:

"Today, I thank God for the strength He has given me. I want to thank my family for their undying support, and all of my staff, supporters, and friends for the countless prayers and encouraging words. Thank you for standing by me.

The jury's verdict today does not impact my responsibility to continue serving and I remain focused on keeping Baltimore on course in these trying economic times.

I want the people of this great city to know that my administration is fortunate to have a talented and dedicated team of professionals running city agencies and departments. Like me, my team remains focused on the everyday business of this city.

I am blessed with opportunity to serve the people of Baltimore."

Talk about no shame.

You may not be aware, but Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is from Baltimore. In fact, both her father Thomas D'Alesandro Jr, and her brother, Thomas D'Alesandro III both are former mayors of Baltimore, (a town Keith Olbermann referred to as "Charm City" last Sunday night in his NFL pregame show). Given Pelosi's past statements about the "culture of corruption", I wonder what her reaction is to Dixon's conviction. So I have Googled "Nancy Pelosi comment on Sheila Dixon conviction", and what I got was this:

  1. Latest reports that I checked were two $500.00 gift cards that she took for herself. Hmm....
Reminds me of the troll in the
White House and his band of fools
    in power, for now.
